    see, it's a good but not GREAT resume. he's one of those guys who was far ahead of a relatively limited field at the time. and i don't want to be a dick but he did fight too many smaller fighters. his resume just never matched his talent

    Well he's got two HW's from my top 35 in history on his list, and in Sam Langford he got a top 25 HW, although Sam was far from full grown. That's more than Dempsey, Holmes, Tyson, Jeffries.

    Not sure what you want or expect from Jack Johnson aside from his having matched men he'd already beaten when champion.

    I wish he'd fought Harry Willis though, having a win over a arguable top 20 heavyweight of all-time would do wonders for his resumé. Jeff Clark wouldn't of been a bad addition either.

    No Heavyweight champion had more intense competition than Ali. He was a huge underdog against both Liston and Foreman who were both considered unbeatable. Ali toyed with a tough as nails Jerry Quarry , who would have been a top contender in any era. He beat really rough guys like Chuvalo and Bonavena. And even way past his best, he defeated the hardest hitting man that ever lived, Earnie Shavers.
    It's just silly to state he wasn't the most accomplished Heavyweight of all time.

    Wills was never positioned for a title shot. Johnson lost his title in 15 and Wills spent most of 14 losing to his top line opponents - Langford and McVey. Wills would never have got a title shot, and he would have beaten Johnson at basically any point afternwards where it was reasonable to match the two.

    I rank Wills #10.

    Roy Jones. Like some1 said Jack Johnson fought a lot of smaller fighters and ones past their prime Bob Fitzsimmons for ex. But then its easy 2 nitpick over just about anyone.
