Most overrated fighter ever

You forgot Chicanito and Hoya. Furthermore, Leonard and Ali are considered top 10 fighters of all time. RJJ is in many people's top 20. Most historians would put Floyd in the top 100. Some put him around 50, others around 60 or 70. It's a big difference being ranked in the top 10 and being ranked at around 50 or 60.

 

Hoya was past-prime when they fought, that much is obvious. And PBF still only sneaked it on the scorecards. I agree with your rating of PBF (50-70), but why I think he is so overrated is because his fans all seem to believe he should be ranked 1-5 p4p of all-time, which is obscene. Joe Calzaghe is one of my all-time favourite fighters, but I accept he cannot be considered 1-5 p4p of all-time for the same reason as PBF: resume. PBF is highly overrated by many many people (his adoring fans).

Hoya was past his prime, but he was still a top 20 fighter in the world, the WBC champ and arguably the best in that division. Floyd also had to go up and fight him at a weight at which he never fought. That's a damn good win.

I don't know if you know this, but fans tend to overrate their favorite fighters. It's ridiculous to claim that someone is the most overrated fighter of all time based on what their obviously bias fans say. You have to judge how overrated a fighter is based on what, credible, objective sources say. If Ring Magazine had Floyd ranked as a top 10 ATG you would have a good argument. However, people like them don't. Credible sources have him around 50. That hardly qualifies him as the most overrated fighter ever.

Calzaghe is highly overrated by his adoring fans. He's also less talented, and his resume is nowhere near as strong as Floyd's. Even by your interpretation of overrated, Calzaghe would be ahead of Floyd.

 

Funny that Ali's era has the most greats/big names of any era at once.

How do you call yourself a Mayweather fan when you post his name in a thread labeled "most overrated fighter ever", i don't even like the man but you are an absolute twat if you think that.

I understand names like Tyson etc whose resumes don't really match their H2H ability/talent, but the man hasn't lost a fight for ****sake and whilst he hasn't fought everyone, he is undefeated after years of fighting pretty quality opposition.

You can't base it on a few ******ed nuthuggers, as every fighter has them, except with Floyd, most of the time when a hugger states something, there is at least a slight amount of validity, as he has showed he isn't exactly easy to beat.

Overrated yes, by some, overrhated, absolutely, but his name being mentioned in a thread titled "most overrated fighter ever" is just a plain joke. Hell i like Tyson a lot more than PBF but at least a person saying Tyson is the most overrated has relatively solid evidence resume-wise to base it on, not that it is necessarily true.

 

I'll come again no bother amigo: Good opposition- Corrales, Castillo, Hatton, adequate opposition- Hernandez, Manfredy, great opposition- none.

 

How did Jones not prove himself against class fighters? He completely and totally outclassed and dominated a top 3 P4P fighter at the time in James Toney and easily beat Hopkins as well. He rarely lost rounds in his prime. You underrate him. And I've never seen a list with him as the #1 P4P boxer of all time.

Tyson lost bouts when his life and management started spiraling downwards, in his young prime with the right people around him, the right attitude, and the right work ethic and style he was phenomenal. That wasn't just smoke and mirrors.

 

First off, Hernandez is hardly adequate opposition. The man was the WBC champ, the top rated fighter in the division, and a 3-1 favorite. Floyd was 21 and had all of 17 bouts under his belt. Second, what are some great fighters that Floyd could've fought but didn't?

the worst thing about mayweather is that he could without a doubt beat a lot of guys at and around his division but he refuses to. the kids got amazing skills but a reluctance to actually prove himself against a fighter who is their prime at their proper weight

Well Michael Bentt really didn't give him any time to put him down cause he stopped Morrison in one round. And Morrison did have Bentt hurt before Bentt dropped Morrison.

Mercer in his prime had one of the best chins in heavyweight history.

Who the **** would??? Besides Evander Holyfield. Morrison knew he had a shaky chin and he boxed Foreman(very impressively) to a UD.

Purity had a rock for a chin and could crack pretty hard himself.

Well I guess Larry Holmes is a bum for not stopping the "china chinned" Carl Williams.

Just proves again that steriods don't help in boxing.
