Did you say "basic common sense"???atsch Do you really expect anyone who would even THINK about saying PBF to have an ounce of "basic common sense"????
I strongly disagree. Ali was very talented and beat too many top level talent to be considered the most overrated fighter ever. He never lost a fight in his prime, and beat guys like Frazier, Foreman, and Norton when he was past his prime. He does get overrated, but not vastly overrated. Meanwhile, you have a guy like Harry Greb. There is no footage of this guy and many of his fights were won via newspaper decision. Despite this, he's in many people's top 5.
I had a similar debate with another ill-informed Floyd Fanboy yesterday, so I can basically cut and paste much of the same info for this: Corrales was probably the best win of his career, and it was an excellent win. Corrales was #5 p4p at the time not 4 (and Floyd was #7, so there was 2 places between them), but he was definitely NOT a huge favourite to beat Mayweather- I don't even think he was a favourite at all. To say he was a huge favourite is ridiculous. Genaro Hernandez? "Hernandez was a young vet". More garbage. He was 32, which is just plain old for a lower weight fighter. Not finished, not shot, but definitely old. De La Hoya knocked him out in a quicker time when Hernandez was younger, fresher and better. Genaro Hernandez was never in the top 10 p4p. He won a version of the world title twice, his first he got a vacated belt, the second with a split decision points win over 39-year-old Azumah Nelson. Genaro Hernandez was a good, solid opponent, and a decent world champion for a while. Nothing more or less. Angel Manfredy? Two fights before Mayweather he fought Isander Lacen (12-8-4). Five fights before Mayweather he fought Kevin Sedam (13-30-1!). NEVER won 1 of the 4 major titles, LOST in 4 attempts. Is this really evidence of good opposition on a resume? Adequate, at best. Ricky Hatton? You clearly know nothing about his career. He was not at the time he fought Floyd, nor has he ever been, the undisputed 140 champ, so that's rubbish for start. He held the IBF and WBA belts at the same time for 5 months, then vacated the IBF in March 06, then vacated the WBA in May 06, and fought Floyd in December 07. And he was in fact ranked 8th p4p at the time they fought, not 3rd or 4th, he has never been nor will ever be that high. I don't know if these are honest mistakes on your part, or just lies. And Corrales and Castillo "pretty much ruled the 130 and 135 weight classes" at that time did they?? - Castillo had held 1 version of the world title for 2 years at lightweight when he met Floyd. (And he beat Floyd then anyway!) - Corrales had held 1 version of the world title, the IBF, for 1 year at super-featherweight, when he met Floyd. Is that ruling 130 and 135????? Laughable. :smoke
You have to realize that Ali fought at a time when Heavyweights were actually throwing punches - not that bull**** you see today. He wasn't as great as he proclaimed, but you gotta give him credit for owning George Foreman when he was beatin' the brakes off people. And not to mention Frazier, Liston, and just about anyone else he faced. Part of what makes him great was his psychological superiority. And that alone won him fights when a lot of boxers would have folded. BTW, are we FINALLY finished talking about Floyd? :-(
You're just being a dismissive little ***** because I spanked your ass til you cried the other day on here. IMO, many boxing fans spectacularly overrate Floyd Mayweather Jr (as I have often saw/heard people rating him top 5, top 10, top 20 of all-time, when really he should be around 50-70 = not just slightly overrated), therefore I think this widespread opinion means he is the most overrated fighter today, and a legitimate contender for the most overrated fighter ever. IMO. Cheers.
This is an internet forum. You can't spank anyone or make them cry. I'm 100% sure I'd kick the **** out you if you ever talked **** to me in personn. However, that's all irrelevant. I didn't even come at you or throw any insults at you. This despite the fact, that you are clearly a boxrec fan who doesn't see the whole picture. Your logic is half assed. There's no two ways about it. More half assed logic. You're counting the opinions of fanatics who will naturally overrate the guy, but what about the haters who underrate him? I bet there's more haters than fanatics. I'll tell you what, go up to some objective boxing fans and tell them that Mayweather is the most overrated fighter of all time. You can even throw some boxrec stats at them. I guarentee they'll tell you that you don't know what you're talking about.
Forget the fact that Hernandez held an alphabet belt, that's pretty much irrelevant. What I will say for Hernandez is that he was a extremely good fighter, and it's probably PBF's top performance ever (better than against Corrales...)
Why are you on this thread?? It's asking for who we think is the most overrated fighter ever, it is not just an open invitation for any little ***** to pop up mid-debate and pathetically attempt to **** all over other peoples opinions. I haven't seen you propose anyone, but I have seen you dismiss and criticize. Do you have any opinions? Or do you just like arguing? You're everything that is wrong with internet forums, and this one in particular.
I'm 100% sure I'd kick the **** out you if you ever talked **** to me in personn Cast-iron evidence that you are just a pathetic internet ****wit. Threatening people from your armchair in front of your computer, when you're probably jacking off and eating biscuits. What a ****ing loser!! Anyone who goes as low, as cheap, is a nothing. I cannot debate with such a person. Please die. Bye.
I mentioned Harry Greb in that very same post. I guess you forgot to read that. This forum is all about opinions and debating. I give my opinion a lot, I also post when I disagree with someone's opinion. What's wrong with this forum is that there aren't enough true fans. There are too many people that don't even watch these fights. They form opinions on fighters based on what they find on Boxrec. Seriously, if you don't like and think I'm such a problem then don't respond to me. It's that easy. I don't mind debating with anyone, even misguided fans such as yourself.
A final point: why are you trying to pretend you proposed Greb as the most overrated fighter ever? Read over this. You haven't done that at all. Nothing like it. You lie, you dismiss, but you don't give an opinion. Pathetic.
Even though I am not a floyd lover u can't call him overrated even i know that and up until the hatton fight I was one of his harshest critics, I mean knocking corrales down five times in 10 rounds is a achievement in its self because corrales was one tough fighter. The way he can change is game plan in mid fight is fantastic.
