Which era in HW boxing is way overrated. I see the 80 starting to get overrated lately. What do you guys think?
I agree and early 90s. Tyson-Lennox Lewis reign era pretty much. Not saying they were bad just overrated.
I think there have been eras that went more mainstream that were simply good eras without that platform, but there has always been exciting good "fight of the year" type fights every year. It's really a popularity contest. There's always been great fighters.
Worst and overrated are different things. So the question is which time was just okay ( neither good or bad ) , but it talked about too often as being great. Maybe the 1950's.
1980s definitely gets overrated, but only by people who are trying to revise the era to boost Tyson. I think the 1990s has always been more generally overrated. 1970s perhaps too, considering Ali was past it the whole decade, and Frazier was over-the-hill after 1971.
I think the 1980's which featured Holmes and Tyson at their peak were a time with talent, and also a bit of a what if due to politics and the drug scene at the times. The top ten of the decade would compare favorable to most other decades. Maybe it's overrated due to over exposure. The Tyson factor if you will
The "Klitschko" era 2006 - 2015 by a mile. 95% Bum Fights in almost 10 Years I´am so Glad we see know really good heavyweight fights like Ortiz vs. Jennings/Thompson , Wilder vs Povetkin , Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte / Charles Martin Joseph Parker vs Takham David Haye and Tyson Fury are also solid HW.
