Most Overrated trainers/coaches?

It's been done 1000s of times before (opening a neighborhood gym), but no other man put something like that together. Kronk was awsome, I loved those gold trunks sprayed with fresh blood.

I'm impressed that you brought up Super Bad and Womac though. Womac,....I have no memories. SuperBad I only read about in older magazines. I can't recall ever seeing them on a card that I attended.

But I used to go down to Cobo Arena for the Kronk Fight Nights. Dwight Davison, Milton Mccrory, Jimmy Paul, Phillip Moorefield and many others. I met Hilmer Kenty at one of those shows. He would, years later, be an announcer for the broadcast of my pro debut. Hilmer Kenty.... great guy. (Hilmer wasn't there for me. He was there for a latin gods final bout. I was on the undercard.)

I think I was being 'recruited' by Kronk as an amateur.

I worked a little with a trainer from Kronk. Al Smith, I think. Kronk was always around me though when I was amateur. I don't remember the first year that a solid amatuer, and his brother (who was just a
badass), just started showing up to train. They were both from Kronk. With the trainer that I was just speaking of, Al, he used to train Darrin Morris. If anybody could find out the last name of that trainer I would appreciate it.

I spent years fighting in the ams and two years as a pro.

Reffed and judged the ams. I took the pro test and passed to be a judge but failed the refereee test. This was with the ABC.

 

This. His success speaks for itself. If anything he's underrated considering how much he's accomplished despite being as young as he is.

Agreed lots of good boxers on his CV, so he must be doing something right, maybe it's his demeanour that irks me somewhat, but that shouldn't detract from his abilities, so fair points, on a personal note I don't as as a rule converse with posters that have been banned, I have tried over the years on the forum to maintain dignity and respect to one and all posters, and in the main that has been the case back to myself and my posts, I don't know why you have been banned it's not my business, but I would sincerely hope that once the ban has been served, that will steer you in a different/better direction, that said, you know your boxing it would appear, and I look forward to many more engaging and informative posts from you in the future.

He was an outstanding corner man. He had it down to a science. That is part of being a top trainer. Ray was also very smooth with the media. The writers loved him he was a national treasure.
Arcel carried himself with class and dignity which was not so common in his profession.
There were some others around who were likey better teachers of the technical aspects of the sport. Jack Blackburn, Freddie Brown and even Charley Goldman could put together a kid from the ground up. Cus D'Amato as well.

Freddie Brown worked with Arcel training Duran who won the title at a young age and still needed some refinement. Arcel would generally come in about 2 weeks before a fight and oversee the camp and discuss gameplan etc.
Freddie was there from the beginning dealing with Duran's temper but also taught him most of the finesse he developed as he matured. His infighting and his defense. Brown had no patience for a novice but he could take a seasoned pro and add to him.
Brown never got the attention Arcel with the press or public because he was as bad with the media as Arcel was smooth. He was basically Mickey from the Rocky movies.
