If there is nothing in a round, people should score it even, otherwise if you score it 10-9 on a whim, then when one boxer does have the upper hand in a round you wont be rewarding him as you will be scoring it the same as a very close round. I will score a beatdown as a 10-8 round, very rare indeed, but I will score a beatdown as a 10-8. I will score a beatdown and a knockdown as a 10-7 {very rare}, I once scored a 10-6 round for a beatdown, a knockdown and a point deduction. The big issue in boxing scoring imo is the lack of even rounds, which can skew a result, one boxer can win 8 'even' rounds 10-9, the other boxer clearly wins the other 7 rounds 10-9 {ok I remember 15 round fights} and you get a false result in my opinion. As without round scoring, one boxer clearly won the fight, but with round scoring the other boxer could win the fight, a true representation needs to be recorded. Therefore a drawn round should be a drawn round 10-10, having the better of the round should be a 10-9, total dominance should be 10-8, and for a knockdown round there should be a point deducted. If a boxer clearly wins a round but suffers a knockdown, it should be scored 9-9, as the boxer suffering the knockdown would have won the round 10-9 if he had not been knocked down, but because he was knocked down he should lose a point, making it a 9-9 round.
I guess if you start a thread about people not knowing how to score a fight and then make a basic mistake like that then you are going to get a bit of stick.
The main reason you very rarely see a referee score even round as when they are getting tested they are told to score a winner in the round unless you cant score it 10-10. now in pro boxing you are awarded point only on scoring blows or knock downs and it doesnt really matter how much you lose a round it will be scored 10-9 unless there was k/down or points deduction which is the easy way to score but its a brave judge who deducts point on his own reason or awards a round by more than the point without a knock down as they will be ask to explain there decision.
atsch Only time you should rightfully see a 9-9 is if one boxer wins the round 10-9 but has a point deducted.
