By far Jordan is the most popular current athlete....no one in the past 20 years comes close. Ali was big but alot of people dont know who he is outside the US. Kids in Kenya know who jordan is. Maybe Ali had this popularity 30 years ago but not presently.

What complete garbage...exactly the opposite is true.

Ali is an historical sporting icon for whcih we will never see the likes of again. Jordan is more famous for trainers than sport outside the US

Exactly what country are you from to assume this? I lived in mexico and spain and now currently in the US. I can back up what I said based on my experiences, so what about you?

Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, De La Hoya, and Roy Jones seem to be well known outside of the boxing community. George Foreman too, even if its because of the grill.

He was right, I even seen a deal on 20/20 that spoke about Ali to this day still being the most popular man in sports. And he hasnt had a fight in almost 30 years, I can only imagine what it was like in the 70's

well speak for yourself.it's opinion that maradona was much the better player.pele did some remarkable things as a player, and what of his goals record attracting attention? it is a pretty important thing to have in your arsenal is it not when judging greatness? as for popularity,it's a complete no contest, pele wins hands down,he's universally loved.maradona is loved and loathed in equal measure.

    Maybe in the US.

    Outside: Pele or Maradona.
