Latinos born/ based in the US. Is it just a coincedence or you really have to check this two boxes to get to this "status" ?

I dont see Cubans or Colombians getting this type of love lol

Updated the OP to replace this bit:

...with my fully-fleshed-out description of Vargas' chronic preferential treatment from the judges.

Canelo was neither born nor raised in the US.

Vargas actually fought on the Mexican national team in the amateurs (despite having a birthplace in the US)

Danny is the most "American" of them, culturally, and his Spanish is awful. Mine's probably better tbh.

Byrd's name pops up thrice - once for excessive generosity Canelo, and twice for Vargas.

It seems to me Boricuas and Mexicans have a better chance than most to obtain this kind of special treatment in more than just one or two fights, at least in this era.
    Cubans, less so

Is it for demographics, financial reasons, I dont know.

Felix Verdejo can probably be the one of the next canditates for this list if he fights more often lol

Didnt know Vargas boxed for the Bandera de Mexico

Canelo IS the American dream for a lot of Mexican-Americans, he's well at home in the South

Let's extrapolate and parse some data from the OP here to help compare their "protected" status...

    # of questionably favorable scorecards for each:

CANELO - Twenty-two, over nine bouts. One an outright robbery IMO (Lara) plus one inexcusable card in his favor in a clear loss (CJ Ross' 114-114 versus Mayweather), and, in the consensus view, an inexcusably wide card in his favor in a draw that many people had going the other way (Adalaide Byrd's 118-110 versus Golovkin)

SWIFT - Sixteen, over eight bouts. Three of them outright robberies (Peterson, Herrera, Theophane) plus one inexcusable card in his favor in a clear loss (Kevin Morgan's 115-113 versus Thurman).

RUTHLESS - Twenty, over ten bouts. Two of them outright bad decisions (López should've gotten the nod, Novikov should've gotten at worst a draw) plus three inexcusably close scorecards in clear losses (Dave Moretti's 113-114 versus Pacquiao, and Max DeLuca's 116-112 & Kermit Bayless' 115-113 versus Bradley) and three more that could've been draws (Allakhverdiev, Narh, Omotoso), with him always getting the benefit of the doubt.

All things considered, this contest is a little closer than many of you might've initially assumed, hmm?

I'm not sure I understand. None of these guys have been anywhere near as protected as the Latin trio...and I detest Broner.

Probably Canelo. I can see why people mightve had GG winning even though imo he lost and was tamed by Canelo. Many think that he lost to Lara, and that on one card he actually was given a draw I believe correct me if I'm wrong against Floyd.

Yeah but Danny and Jessie have been mollycoddled every bit as bad. Really all three are neck and neck IMO, especially when you break it down by numbers like I did a few posts ago.

Fair enough. For the record I am one that does believe he lost to Lara, clearly at that, putting me in an embattled minority....and I still think both the other guys are on the same tier with him.

Both Danny and Canelo have two fights where guys clearly think that they lost even though I don't agree, it is what it is. Theophane for Danny and Floyd for Canelo is what it came down to in my book and we all know that Canelo didn't deserve a draw against Floyd. I didn't think that Theophane came close to beating Danny.

I would have guessed you would be all for cherry picking and paying off judges. Isn't it just weak minded suckers who follow the rules? :confundio1:
