Not the better boxer or fighter but who had more power if they hit you for me i think dempsey, sharkey said in a phone booth dempsey would woop louis and that werever jack hit you he hurt you,but marciano would be close a good right but jack had a harder left and ali took georges best shots i doubt if the rock or jack hit him there hardest in the gut he would ask is that all yougot wich gerge thought then (yeah thats about it) so lets have it guys whats your pick
For pure, single shot power, out of all of them, I'd go with Shavers, for most overall effective puncher, I'd go with Louis, with Dempsey as a close second.
Earnie Shavers. Not the most effective puncher, but when he DID hit you, he knocked you into next week. He nearly did that to Larry Holmes.
Shavers' right hand is arguably the hardest punch in heavyweight history. Foreman #2, Liston #3, Tyson and Lennox Lewis rounding out the top five in terms of right hand power. Foreman I'd say has the most power coming from both fists. His right is not that far off from Shavers' but his left hand is much stronger.
For hardest single punch a would say Shavers's right or Morrisson's left hook, but for two fisted power my choice among the ones you named is Foreman. I think Lewis should have been an alternative, though. Then I might have chosen him. Tyson is another one with mad power in every punch possible. The guy just didn't know how throw a non-committed, half-assed punch. Shavers, Foreman, Morrisson and Lewis all did.
Bingo People did funny things when Shavers hit them. He probably hit significantly harder than any heavyweight who ever held the lineal heavyweight title. Max Baer is the one who comes closest for my money.
Two hands, Foreman. Speaking of crushing power making people do funny things, it was sad to see Frazier doing that awkward lunge into the air, bent at the knees, arms flailing, split seconds after getting smashed by Foreman for the last time in Jamaica. Dundee and Pacheco were right in dramatically screaming at Mercante from ringside to please stop the fight. The indomitable Frazier's life could have been in jeopardy with a few more shots.
I don't think Frazier's life was in jeopardy. Foreman's tactics were big time illegal, getting away with pushing, shoving, hitting underneath and grabbing Frazier's shoulders. Frazier still finished the fight on his feet and probably is the last fighter standing in the ring if he came into the Foreman fight with the same dedication to training that he paid Ali. Mercante was having an off night and probably wanted to stay as clear away from the fighters, not being the deciding factor in the final outcome. Funny, nobody talks about how many times Frazier kept getting up, six, and how tired Foreman started to become at the end of the fight. The evidence is clear in the post fight interview with Don Dunphy, watching George try to catch his breath between sentences.
Fitzsimmons was knocking out heavy weights @ only 165. Max Baer supposedly killed 1 maybe 2 people in the ring. Now thats power!
again, without a definition of what you mean by powerful, this is a meaningless exercise. Lb4Lb Power? One shot power? Combo power? Withering, attrition power? Power through accuracy? Through speed? Through concussive, long contact power? Further questions... Do you rate guys who overcommit on their punches and thus get KO'd often higher than those who keep everything their guards tight and punches short but do the trick over more rounds and get KO'd less? Do you go for the gambler or the steady guy? These "who was more powerful" questions always seem far too general and open a rat's nest of more and more interesting questions.
