Almost all are not worthy of PPV status. I hope the networks get the message,

I agree but to a different extent. Everything should be free, then the likes of you should finally get a new t-shirt.

I dont see how one of the biggest stars of boxing today vs a WW champion who has just defeated a previously undefeated WW champion would not be PPV especially with such a great under card.:huh

Jr v Ortiz and Hopkins v Dawson did not worth the money.

Its easy to talk in retrospect, before the fights took place they were PPV worthy.

Jr v Ortiz was expected to be worthy, yes. I agree.

Hopkins v Dawson wasn't. The expectations were for a tactical, boring, slow tempo fight that would go the distance. As names it was PPV material, but as fighting styles - no.

PPV is bad for boxing period.

Reason 1) It's the main reason the general public in the US doesn't see the big fights.
Reason 2) The "big stars" get sooo incredibly high PPV payouts they fight less and are careful who they fight.
Reason 3) Boxing has always been a "working class" sport, and will get smaller and smaller when getting more expensive to watch.
Reason 4) Lesser boxers make less money because they don't get exposure on TV.
Reason 5) PPV also means that some fights are impossible to watch in some countries, again making the sport smaller.

In the "early Tyson era" people didn't have to pay (much) to watch the big fights, and still the big names made a huge amount of money because everybody watched them fight.
Nowadays in the mass communication era "ordinary" people know less about today's boxers as 25 years ago... I'm sure that if I ask people in the street "who is Floyd Mayweather?" maybe 10% will even recognize his name, and maybe 3% will really know who he is... That's insane!

All of Floyd's next fights should be free.
