As boxing aficianados, do you collect memorabilia? What is the one item your most proud of? I recently had the chance to get a Dempsey/Willard on site programme...I was stoked to get it!!! Great old time piece of boxing history... I've heard collectors comment that collecting anything Harry Greb is like trying to find the Holy Grail...for every 500 Dempsey pieces floating around there is only 1 Greb piece...Harry Greb stuff is scarce!!!
Back in the 70's you could find incredible boxing memorabilia cheap. My brother who was more into boxing even than I bought entire complete fights including pre fight intros, after bout announcement as well as the full minute in between rounds on 16 mm film.....Louis vs Schmeling 1, Sharkey vs Carnera 1, Among others I've forgotten. One thing he traded for was a contract for a bare knuckle fight involving Jake Kilrain signed by both participants. I do not remember who he was fighting. It was an elaborate document several pages long with an official seal on one page. At the time we had little money so all of these could not have cost much.
I've probably got close to 2,000 old boxing magazines. Been getting them off ebay for years. The price is always right so I can't help it. Got a ton of dvd's, career sets, documentaries, etc.... Some cool old Everlast 8oz. brown gloves. Couple posters too
Hardcover boxing books from the early 19th century like Boxiana, Pancratia, Fistiana, Memoirs of Mendoza, etc.
