I didnt say I agreed with the perception
but among many fan's, especially here........the fact that he didnt leave europe to fight created that impression
one of the biggest travesties of the early 21st centrury boxing scene is taht DM-Jones was never made

Well but then you could say every American fighter who never fought outsdie of the states is protected. Bad double standard here.

Sturm and Abraham need to start risking their belts against tougher opposition.

Julio Cesar CHavez jr seems to be the torch bearer for protected fighters at the moment. If he wants to be taken serious as anything other than the son of a great fighter - he needs to start fighting for ranking and move towards a belt.

EDIT: On second thought Abraham did fight Miranda again when he didn't have to - so props to him for that.

it is a double standard but to be honest from the 60s-90s, before the collapse of the eastern bloc and the influx of eastern euro fighters into germany, and the reighn of lennox lewis in the HW division, the US was considered widely to be the mecca of boxing
now that is changing to an extent but fans still hold on to old standards long after they are no longer valid

Well, yes it was but that does also mean they avoided European fighters to an extent. An example Frenchman Charles Humez was a top mw and Eurochamp, competative with the top American mws, Peter Mueller a top German mw beat and lost to Joey Giardello and beat some other American mws at the time. Both were beaten soundly by Bubi Scholz but Scholz never got a fight against the top American mws despite clearly beeing one of the best in the division. In fact he hardly got ranked. Just because he was European.

Yes, the US were the boxing Mecca than but that also made it possible to avoid non-American threats. Now this isn´t as possible anymore and we see what happens. I´m pretty sure there were quite a few European, South American, Asian and African fighters in that time that were as good as the best American fighters but never had the chance to prove it. Now they get the chance.

Watch who say fought and beat during the same time period. There is a reason while Ottke was the number one smw back then and not Calzaghe even in the US media like the ring.

Brewer I and Mitchell were close fights which went to the home town fighter if you call that a robbery every close fight is one. Bad example - especially when you look how Ottke outclassed Brwer in their second fight. The only Ottke fight which was a real robbery was the Reid fight but by then Ottke was already pretty much done. I dislike Ottke myself, boring style and he was/is and idiot but there should be some fairness and objectivity.
