Won his title, then made a voluntary defence against Mundine, rated a top five SMW, in Mundine's hometown. Then went on to make a voluntary defence/unification bid against consensus SMW number one and P4P fighter Joe Calzaghe in Calzaghe's hometown in front of a 65000 crowd. After losing that title in that fight he wanted to go back to Australia to take it back from Mundine again, but Mundine ran away. This is what you consider 'protected'?
Not in the oppinion of most experts at the time and their oppinion outweigh that of you by far, darling. :hi: btw. ever heard of the term styles make fights? And yeah robberies, I´m sure you think Ruiz was also robbed against Tua
In Britain perhaps. The ring had Ottke as number one for example. Ottke during the time both were champions unified and fought the better fighters. Overall Calzaghe had the better career no question but not when both were active.
Wrongly. DM cleaned out the LHW division by 97, then continued to clean it out after that, with the exception of Roy Jones Jr, who as we all know, was very hard to negotiate with.
jcc jr.,joe calzaghe, andre berto joe calzaghe has fought 3 names so far but beating jones may change my oppinion.and andre berto has really only fought one guy in steve forbes but he's never really done much either.he needs to step it up to become an elite fighter. And do i really need to explain jcc jr? come on now
Being protected isn't just about not fighting names. It's about being protected from challenges, which can be as much about where you fight, at what stage of your career, etc. If Calzaghe had been truly protected early in his career he wouldn't have gone ahead with the Delaney fight, away from home against a vicious crowd. He wouldn't have fought Eubank away from home. He wouldn't have defended his title away from home against Reid or Woodhall. Some geographically-challenged posters think that those were all home fights for Calzaghe. They should consider whether Pavlik v Taylor in Ohio would have been a home fight for Taylor.
Apart from the fact that you're most probably spectacularly wrong, what have hypothetical future opponents go to do with this thread?
