that fight also showed me how much Holyfield can take a punch too! Tyson got him with a huge left hook I think it was, and all Holyfield did was take a step back , get composed and then come back again..whereas most other fighters might have dropped
Agree 100%. Tyson was a scary monster to most opponents, and to the extent that many of them had already beaten themselves before the opening bell even sounded. That sort of bluff carried Tyson a long way, that and a sleepmaking left hook etc. But once Tyson lost to Buster Douglas, opponents started to believe he could be beaten, even though it took until Holyfield & Lewis to actually get the job done.
Liston v Ali....ok it was in a movie :yep Did Liston try to blind Ali with something on his gloves as the movie said? Thats a big claim to make
Yeah mate whatever they were getting paid wasn't enough. I've got 7 or 8 trusted fights that I watch regularly: Calzaghe vs mitchell Calzaghe vs RJJ Calzaghe vs kessler Katsidis vs earl Oscar vs mayorga Oscar vs vargas mundine vs geale mundine vs downing morales vs barrera 1 But today I am opting for the masterpiece that was "money" vs corrales its a clinic. :deal
Been going through some great fights over the last week.. One that denies any sense or reality.. Fenech vs Zarate. Carlos had began to 'box' Fenech at a distance, using a long experienced jab, followed by incessent liver shots and signs of ringmanship were being established slowly.... before the fight was stopped due to a cut under Fenech eye.. Fenech had been in good control, far from dictating the entire rounds, although he'd bullied and pushed as much as usual. Several long right hands were enforcing and the commentaters were ****ing jokers with the onesided rantings.. EMBARASSING!! I'd say Carlos was getting well and truly into the mode he'd hoped for, and the same mode that worked for Azumah at Princess Park... Keeping the rangy jab in the face of Fenech and following through with body and head attackes.. Remember Vegas?? The rip off?? Funny stuff that.. Fenech has a mirror image cut, yet the fight is never stopped..
David Tua vs Izonritei was from memory the last fight I watched.. Not a bad fight... Tua really gave it to him the whole fight, the guy can sure take a punch... He looks very similar and fights like Edison Miranda.
I watched this afternoon Daniel Ponce de Leon vs. Orlando Cruz (from the States last week) Terrible fight, very mess both being s/paws. Ponce de Leon stopped Cruz with a body shot and barrage. Again, messy and ugly to watch.
Just about to go and watch Gatti vs. Ward 1 (Help keep my world in balance!) May follow with Cinderella Man to fall asleep too! P.S: Watched a very moving tribute doco last night about Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini and the tragedy around the bout with the Korean fighter Dook Koo Kim who died. Tragic events following with the ref killing himself some months later and also the Korean's mother committing suicide over the loss. Just terrible. Moving doco put together and left speechless at times.
