Another thing that annoys me is when a guy like Jones mopped up just about everybody around for 10 years, minus a few, then some idiot will say 'he only beat two good fighters in Hopkins and Toney'.

I agree on both counts. There are plenty of fighters out there who fight quality, yet unknown, fighters and get dismissed by fans of another fighter with a worse resume who has a padded record filled with a bunch of KO's against C and D level fighters.

On to Roy, this guy fought just about every top contender and/or champ at 175 with the exception of Michalczewski. Gonzalez,Woods,Tarver, Griffin, Johnson, Harding, Hill, Grant; these were all top contenders at LHW.

 

Exactly, all of them were decent to good fighters and he smashed most of them, that is something that only a top elite can do and he deserves credit for those wins.

Winning every round against a B or B+ fighter is something only an A+ can pull off beautifully, Jones pulled that off quite frequently, or nearly every round at least.:yep

I think when people complain about RJJ's resume, they certainly aren't saying he only beat two good fighters. But what they do realize is that he was never pushed or never had that great rival during his prime which a lot of greats have had. And that might've diminished his overall legacy.

Surely, beating Toney when he was considered one of the P4P best is probably his most impressive win. Beating Hopkins is great. But had they fought again and RJJ would've been able to get another win, it would've enhanced his legacy. Who knows, maybe Hopkins would've won the rematch and they would've done a memorable triology. It's stuff like that which people point to when they try to dismiss RJJ's resume. And it's stuff like that which would've enhanced his legacy even further.

I don't think any knowledgable boxing fan will claim that he only beat two good fighters. He certainly took on whoever was available. And maybe because he was so good he even made great fighters look bad. Or maybe he fought in a weak era.
