I remember watching an Ian Napa fight a few months ago and the commentator said that he was once described as "The British Floyd Mayweather".

I've only been following boxing now for about 3 years but was interested to see if anyone can remember hearing/reading about an "exciting new boxer" who later turned out to be absolutely awful/nowhere near as good as expected.

Predictions on future hype jobs also welcome.

Number one for me has got to be Tyson Fury. A lot of people are gonna be embarrassed about bigging up that lazy, fat ham.

    Andre Ward.

Not that he isn't good, but the Showtime commentary is just at a ridiculous level. Comparing him to Sugar Ray Leonard and almost going as far as saying he's better than Roy Jones on the back of beating...Allan Green.

Ian Napa's ****ing awesome, imo. He could've done so much better though.

Francisco Bajado (although I believe it was Buddy McGirt who ruined him)

Domminick Guinn ( I thought so too, after that vicious KO of M. Grant)

Ricardo Mayorga (beat Forrest twice, and then was exposed...and exposed...and exposed agian)

I agree... speaking of Allan Green he was hyped as well IMO. He's not a real threat to the top of the division, he just talks a big game

    Kelly Pavlik.

Complete hype job favoured because of his race by the institution and the white boxing demographic. Great white hope was introduced to reality.
