Well i had the exact same feelings as you per Bark - Coetzee, like WTF!!!!! Your anology was just smack on and conjured up some great pictures. Iran was a middleweight for the longest time and suddenly seeing him at Heavyweight shocked the **** out of me as i had noooo idea.

 

Actually in 1987 the Ring Magazine had Mike Tyson as the best fighter p4p. Marvin was a few slots down- he was right above Pinklon Thomas on the p4p lists.

Willie 'The Worm' Monroe was a classy contender who schooled a young Hagler; giving the Marvelous One his one (without doubt) defeat. This fight was no upset, and Monroe no bum.

Hagler's defeat to Boogaloo Watts was far more embarrassing, although accounts suggest Hagler was a little unlucky to drop the decision.

But to go back to the thread Pep losing to Lulu Perez was a disgrace that rightly cost Pep his licence (in New York) and to a point hurt his legacy. A great fighter involved in a fix hurt boxing badly.

 

Do you realise Watts beat Monroe two fights before he (Watts) beat Hagler?

Then Monroe beat Hagler two fights after Watts did, after of course being beaten by Watts himself 4 fights prior.

Well styles make fights! Watts was no mug, he caught Cyclone Hart cold as well and Hart gave a young Hagler a fair fight. Philly fighters were right up in the 70s Middleweight rankings.

I caught Watts late losing to Kaylor, but his 70s work from what I have seen made him a fair contender, I just thought Monroe had more about him, but then I also have a lot of time for Colbert; you could say I have a real report with him!
