Marciano had some compassion, even crying in the locker room after stopping Joe Louis because he didn't want to beat up the shell of one of his heros. The likes of Tyson (prime), McClellan, Liston, 70's Foreman, Dempsey etc had no such compassion, just complete and utter search and destroy.

The only thing that matters is their in-ring demeanor. And Rocky was a far more brutal character than Tyson, to tell you the truth. There are not many times you'd see Rocky let someone cling on to him, if he had a free hand he'd smash you to smithereens with that hand.
There is an argument for this. 100 punches a round is relentless. Paul Williams too. Obviously not of all time, but in the last 15 years, they have shouts. A young Barerra was a savage.
