maybe not in a particular fight, but Sam Langford and the other great black fighters pre Joe Louis who never got title shot. were shafted in their careers.
Jimmy sure had ring savy. I watched the Young vs. Norton fight live on TV when I was 14-15 years old @ a multi-family social party. All them men glued to the 25" RCA, all the women in the other room, but some were sneaking looks @ the fight. I guess it was unlady like to actually be in the room with the TV. I was rooting for Norton and it was a very close fight. I remember right before the scorecards were read that I thought Norton squeeked it out but I was not confident till they awarded the fight to Norton. It was a lot like the Leonard vs. Haglar fight, because before the cards were read, I had know idea about that one, so I called it a draw.
I've only seen the Vito and SRL matches once, way back when they were broadcast. That Vito fight was awesome, I thought may Haglar won but not by much. Was that one ruled a draw? Haglar vs. Leonard was a pick em' for me. I had no idea who one till they read the score cards. Please clarify, the opportunity to celebrate. Wasn't that when all the beer bottles were hurled into the ring after the fight? That was a freakin' terrible discrace
For one fight Mexican Joe Rivers against Ad Wolgast,Fitz against Sharkey,Tyrone Everrett was an unlucky guy too.
Yeah, and rumour has it that was part of the reason Hagler declined Harry Gibbs, who's British, as a judge for his fight with Leonard. And Gibbs was replaced by the judge who scored the fight 118-110 for Leonard. Gibbs later watched the fight on TV and scored it for Hagler.
Hagler needs to accept that he ****ed up the first 4 rds, let SRL bank them. I think it should have been a draw.
One man who was shafted out of the heavyweight championship was Axel Shultz who IMO did well enough to take away George Foremans title and then in another Championship challenge was beaten bya Steroid fuelled Francois Botha... Axel never was a title holder but after an investigation into the IBf it was said that George was handed the victory due to some very shady under the table dealings.. Axel made George look pedestrian that night , it was a joke..
Yes , in fact i went to Dortmund for that fight.. It was closer than first thought.. i remember Zielko Mavrovic featured too that night in the Westfallen stadium against Mark Young.....
I remember Akinwande being robbed blind in the first Schultz fight, so what goes around, comes around...
