 nah I'm not disrespectful, and not stupid either. It's stricty fisticuffs with The Flea, though if anyone wished to engage in a bout on the cobbles I'd go 'Murderers Row' on their ass :deal

Nah, and with what I'd teach him (how to use his range whilst maintaining a good workrate, he has a Hearns-esque frame at the mo', but wouldn't want him sounding like Tommy) he wouldn't get hurt in the ring either. That and me throwing the towel in, can you imagine Jim Lampley in 20 years time:

'And The Fleaman calls it off. Good decision from the renowned trainer.'

    :rofl

Power is just like anything in boxing.....

You can be born with it naturally, but it still takes years of practice to turn it into something that can you really do damage with. And that goes for speed, footwork, a great right hand, a great jab, a great left hand etc...

So how do you explain unskilled boxers with ko power? All I'm saying is power in itself is not a skill, learning how to use your power is a skill, also known as punch technique! If boxer A has little power and perfect punch technique and boxer B has ko power and perfect punch technique,is boxer B more skilled than boxer A because he hits harder?Of course not!

Unskilled boxers? Define unskilled. Because Matirga for instance knows to put his left foot forward and how to throw a punch. He has little skill, but can compete. Sure e has/had some good power and brawling ability, but his skill was in the unorthodoxy of his attack, due to him not being 'well schooled'. No doubt, power was one pf his main 'skills' due to the way he applied it, not just because he was lucky to have heavy hands.

Maybe unrefined is a better word than unskilled. There are plenty of boxers with ko power but horrible technique, like Prescott or Maidana,so power alone is not a skill. It's how you use what power you have that counts which is exactly what you are saying.

What was the original argument about? Was it about Hayes power being one of his skills?if so, I stand by it, although maybe composite punching would be a better term. Haye is not one if the greatest punchers I've ever seen, but the angles in which he delivers the shot are accentuated by h driving through the punch: his power. So yes, summoning that power is a skill in itself. So yes, power is a skill IMO :good

your points are valid though and this is a silly argument anyway  I look forward to your posts on more engrossing subjects :good

i dont see how this is bad. he throws about 10 big shots and hits him with 7-8. the ref stopped it premature so it looks bad, but williams (a very durable fighter) was tucked up

Khan and Haye don't really deserve a shout in this thread. Neither are the greatest skilled offensive fighters.

Haye has gotten quite far on his power alone (He is skilled but not THAT skilled) and he's hardly a defensive master either.

Khan's offense is so basic it's untrue. Roach has had to take him back to basics, jab jab right hand. ALL straight shots. He can't throw hooks or uppercuts or maybe he wont because (which leads me too.....) it leaves huge gaps in his woeful defense. Khan's speed and his ability to get in and out after throwing simple combinations is his greatest defensive assett.

Regardless of what they've achieved the question was about skill. Not who has skill AND POWER to take them to particular levels, it was skill. Napa, Booth, Brook and Gavin all come to mind here, not Haye and Khan

    I agree...:good

Amir Khan has to remove all his traits from the ams and build up his pro style...:yep

I think that Roach can do this along with quality sparring to ensure any gaps that are still there are exposed in the gym and not in the ring...:yep
