I can see where both are you are coming from, but I still can't agree on this issue. I'll get away from boxing to make my point: At one point in time, Bristol City had this awesome winger called Scott Murray ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Murray_(footballer_born_1974) ). This bloke was sensational and watching him live even off of the ball was amazing. Honestly, he ran rings around everyone and I always thought that he could have made a good fist of it for a lower level team in the Prem. Now, just how good was Scott Murray? The truth is, he spent most of his glory years in Division 2 (as it was known at the time) and was never really tested against someone as skillful as he was. Of course he stood out at Bristol City, but I would never argue that he was better than someone in the Prem as it's counter-intuitive. The simple fact of the matter is Napa has no power and is judged accordingly. If we were to start saying 'well, if he had power he'd be a world-beater' then we are kind of missing the point, IMO. Of course he'd be world-class with power, but the simple fact is he hasn't got any; it would be like saying, 'if Valuev was fast and a defensive genuis he'd be the best ever'. Just the way I see it:good. Haye by miles in this arguement for me and Khan has shown glimpses of what he might become. I am very excited about Gavin, but I don't think it's fair on Gavin or any of the elite British fighters operating at world-level to make the comparison just yet:good.
Gavin has the potential for it to be him. But come on fellas, as good as he is (and I think he's very, very good) he's still a novice. I think he'll go right to the top, but saying he's the most skilled is a little OTT at the moment. Napa was the first to spring to mind, but surely we need to take into account the stage that respective fighters have reached. Which leads me to say it would be a toss up between Haye and Khan. Mitchell's been underrated here though. Not as 'classy' in the same sense as those mentioned, but he's passed every test with flying colours and is getting progressively better. I expect in about 3 years though that this will be Gavin, hands down!
I was wondering why people weren't mentioning him. He showed considerable skill against Prescott and finished that Mendoza guy with a blistering 3 (2) punch counter.
The bolded text might have made sense if power was a skill but it's not.On a purely skill based level,Jason Booth and Ian Napa are far and away more talented than say Amir Khan or David Haye.if you ask the question, who is the more complete fighter,it would be Haye because he has some skills, speed and power. All too often speed and power are mistaken for skill.Look at Amir Khan, his speed masks a multitude of weaknesses in his game but because he throws fast combinations he is always described as having mad skills which he simply does not.
Rhodes, Brook, Witter.............your getting the message. Munroe and Napa also. Coming through the ranks, Rhys Roberts looks good. Haye is also an underrated boxer, i think he would of won a world title even if he had average power. Khan has gotta be up there now to.
No, but caginess, fleet of foot, precision and timing is. Either way, Napa, as talented as he is, has not proved his talent against truly World class opponents. Same reason I don't see Floyd as an impenetrable defensive machine; which offensive forces has he fought?
Im over the Irsih sea for this one and two fighters i like - Paul McCloskey ; unorthodox but good to watch and Martin Lindsay ; could be a future world star , hugely impressive in his defeat of Paul Appleby ... i like these guys good times for Northern Irish boxing ...
But the question was,who is more skilled not who has proven their talent against world class opponents.Fighters like Booth and Napa don't have the power needed to get them to the top level but this does not take away from their skill level. There have been plenty of skilled amateurs who have proven their worth by beating world class opposition but fail in the pro ranks because of lack of power or chin, these fighters are still skilled but other aspects of their game let them down.
I know what the Q was, I ****in read it. You obviously ain't read my posts. I don't feel a fighter is as skilled if they haven't proved their skillset against top opposition. So Haye is my choice. I'm well aware of Napa's skillset pal, I know what I'm talking about.
Calm the **** down, are you so arrogant that you can't stand someone disagreeing with you?Haye is NOT the most skilled fighter in Britain, not even close and I certainly know what I'm talking about.
