Help me settle an argument. Before making a choice consider the following criteria: Boxing IQ (Ring Generalship and Fight Adjustment Strategy), Athleticism (Speed, Strength, Head Movement, Conditioning and Toughness), Overall Boxing Talent, Offense (Punch Power and Punch Accuracy), Defense (Counter Punching and Blocking). All fighters are at the peak of their powers.

James could get away with **** way outside his frame an weight division not many of those could. Standing right the hell in front of big heavies. Thats my opinion. An no hes not the greatest out of the group

Leonard in my book. Had skills in all areas whereas some of the others listed are ''only'' very good at one thing. Beat Duran at his own game for 15 grueling rounds.

I am a diehard Ali fan, and also a big RJJ fan, but those two simply do NOT belong.

Both were not technical kind of fighters, they were freakishly gifted however. Prime Ali had the greatest footwork and handspeed the HW division has ever had, with cat like reflexes. He was extremely hard to hit, but not because he had technical proficient defense, he just had superhuman reflexes to avoid the shots.

Prime RJJ had superior reflexes as well, he got away with doing alot of stupid **** just like Ali because of that. Like Ali he had the fastest hands his division has ever seen, the biggest difference between the two was Ali had MUCH better footwork, Jones had MUCH better power than Ali (of course I'm speaking relative to their divisions)

Both of these guys were tremendous fighters, and H2H monsters in their prime, NEITHER ONE are the most technically skilled though. If you want to make a list of the most physically gifted, those two top it out though.

Edit: My vote is tied between Leonard and Sweet Pea, with Toney just slightly behind them. I've tried to separate Leonard and Pea, but I can't, both are BRILLIANT technicians.

Your pick may be biased, but it isn't illogical. I said Leonard and Pea are my two picks tied for the first, with Toney just slightly behind, but I am truly splitting hairs. All of them were brilliant tacticians, and Toney is the most defensively sound of all three. Pea was more elusive, but Toney was FAR better at setting up his offense with his defense, which people often times give him credit for. The Barkley fight showed how brilliant he was, moving his head just a few inches to avoid a punch, countering instantly, I remember that right cross he landed that sent Iran's mouthpiece flying, just brilliant.

Had James Toney been properly dedicated, who knows how great he could have been... The fact he was a lazy pig, and still has achieved so much is a testament to his talent.

:huhYeah....except he lost. And got his ass beat for the majority of the fight.

I'd say Whitaker or Duran, to answer the question.

On sheer "skill" then I'd go with James Toney, just edging out Whitaker. If only he'd been a little more dedicated. Think Roach said he's the most talented fighter he's ever seen or worked with.. something along those lines.

SRL - although very skillfull, he was also very athletically gifted.

Roy Jones - Same as above, once his physical abilities diminished he kind of got found out.

I'd say Duran. They are all incredibly skilled and I am biased, but he was a monster. He had physical gifts but not those of Ali or RJJ.

I would say all around Leonard although i would put Hearns even ahead of him if he was on the list, followed by Whitaker and then it gets difficult.

Hearns ahead of Leonard in terms of sheer skill? I wouldn't agree with you there.

Hearn's although skillfull, was more of a physical monster. Huge for WW, solid jab and that right hand was like a nuclear bomb.

Wouldn't put him in the same bracket as the likes of Whitaker etc in terms of out and out skill.
