As a Mexican American, I was most offended that he only pays his gardener $2.50 to do the hedges.

Well I mean, ATG ratings do make shifts in perspective through the passage of time, but Mosley's skill/talent? It's been written, and he's short of this group by a pretty fair distance.

This is a good thread, these 3 are probably the 3 best modern fighters that spent thier careers fighting at BOTH lightweight and welterweight. There have been many good lightweights, many good welters, but these 3 were world class at both divisions.

Yeh, there's no rose tint required with these guys. They really are that much better than just about everyone else.

You know thinking about it i'm not sure this us true. Foreman's comeback made us reassess his skill level. I rink longevity plays a big factor in these 'skill' rankings. Hence why a lot of guys had Duran number 1- far greater longevity than the other two. Of course Napoles was an alcoholic (hence the cuts) and Whitaker was a cocaine addict (hence the bad haircut).

i'm going to go back and read the thread after my answer. I wanted it unbiased to start:

1)Duran-Offense is a 9.5, defense 8.5-9. Just all around near flawless until 1980. Combined offense and defense as well as anyone on film, ring said he had possibly the most varied offensive aresenal in history, he just did everything so ****ing well and so naturally

2)Whitaker-this hurts. I love napoles but Sweet pea was so effortless and sublime in what he did. It was if he was doing a crossword and his opponents punches were a minor distraction. Combine that with a ridiculous body attack, fast hands, beautiful counters...he was naturally ridiculously skilled

3)Napoles-a dick hair away from Whitaker. Offensively, better than whitaker but behind him defensively. Movement was near flawless, he combined so many incredble attacks so well. Really, there's not much to crack on he is just in such great company

I'm honestly not sure how anybody can have napoles above whitaker... Sure it's kinda close in a sense, but really pea has the clear edge in my book

    Whitaker: Defense, speed
Duran: punching power, strenght, adaptability, ability to roll with punches, chin, heart,
Napoles: great blend in speed and power, very technically sound.

Duran overall, but these two were better in some terms: for example Whitaker in speed and defense, and Jose was more technical.
But Duran had more power, and had a lot of everything.

    1. Whitaker
    2. Napoles (though his movement is predictable like most Cubans)
    3. Duran

Most naturally gifted? I'd say Whitaker.

Most skilled? Duran. He could box, slug, counterpunch......he could beat you any way he chose with the precision of a master.

Napoles has a high dose of natural gifts and learned skills as well.

Hard to know where to rank these guys. They are so different.

Duran was the most skilled offensive fighter, he had the better offense and was the most skilled on the attack, Whitaker was the most skilled at not getting hit and hiding in the ring, Napoles had a smooth blend of both but Duran was my favorite fighter of the 3 and the most feared
