Which would you pick as the most artful performance by Sonny from a technique perspective? I’d probably pick the first Williams fight
Patterson 2. Crystal clear. Don't think it would be up for debate if he hadn't lost to Ali in his very next fight. Mauling a top 20 HW in his prime is always great, but in the first fight one can always claim Floyd fought a stupid fight when he charged right at Liston. Not so in the second, though. He tried to employ the same tactics he did with success against Chuvalo, but was mowed down just as easily.
I don't think Liston is an artist, I think he's a bully. But I'd go with the Cleveland WIlliams fight because he showed he could use his defense and timing to beat a quicker big man with equal power
He showed he could box when he fought Machen. He proved he wasn't just a mindless puncher when he outboxed a top heavyweight contender.
