Shen could never beat Pan, H2H, but some people claim it's not that Pan was a better fighter but that he only had Shen's number. But anybody looking at their full resumes knows that's not really true either. Who did Shen ever beat by himself? Am I right?

Hmm.. I look at him as an intelligent slugger. He made every shot he threw count.

Demspey does not belong here, imo.

    Duran at his zenith.

Arcel regarding Roberto Duran...."he was the closest thing to Jack Dempsey".

Dempsey with his athletic weaving, constant feints, non stop power punching indeed resembled Duran in many ways. Those inexperienced think of Frazier or Marciano when they think or imagine how Dempsey fought. could not be further from the truth. As per Tunney Dempsey was no brawler but instead a fusion of boxer and puncher.

When you take these two statements made 50 years apart you get an idea of the real Dempsey. He was a boxer puncher closer to Louis than either Marciano or Frazier in terms of ability.

i agree with this. People that denigrate the abilities of Dempsey are flat out ignorant. Watch and learn. There would be no joe frazier if there hadn't been a Dempsey for him to try and copy and fall short of.

Roberto Duran. His performance against Palomino is an excellent demonstration.

Henry Armstrong also. And I can't allow a thread about pressure fighters go without mention of Bad Bennie Briscoe. I love watching his fights.

I don't think he is talking literally. Frazier like Marciano were swarmers like Dempsey but both exhibited a smaller slice of the talent pie as compared to Jack.

Antuofermo was a vastly underrated defensive fighter who lived on the inside. Even with his lack of punching power, he actually was a nightmare in Corro I, Hagler I and Minter I. He wasn't that easy to hit cleanly with punches. Butts were another matter entirely.

Bob Waters had him winning 11 of the 15 rounds in Hagler I. Upon review, I was able to see what Waters was looking at. Marv's punches were grazing past Vito's subtly canting head, not really landing flush.

With his beer keg lungs, he had Mauricio Aldana panting like a dog as his return from brow shaving surgery after Minter II wound down.

Duran had to be the most skilled though. Nobody else ever acquired that level of experience at it. His final stoppage wins are readily on-line.

To me, Dempsey was more of a puncher-boxer than a swarmer.

Gene Fullmer certainly was capable of cutie style perimeter work, but I tend to think of him primarily as a swarmer with the versatility to adapt when suitable.

Big Frazier fan. But his bob and weave was not as good as Dempseys. Fraziers only movement was straight down. Dempsey went down, left, right, forward, and back. Regarding Marciano, he could only do it totally flat footed standing in place.

Pryor and Duran were incredible. Pryor maybe the most underrated fighter I can think of. Duran may be not only the best pressure fighter, but best p4p. Period.
