One name I can think of the time of my head is Benny Leonard but I'm still thinking of possible other names of boxers of high Ring IQ that manipulate situations to their liking. Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Mayweather, Pernell Whitaker, Archie Moore, Sam Langford, Tony Canzoneri, Joe Louis, Bernard Hopkins, and more

 

While it is true that a good corner is a great help to a fighter who is in a tough battle, a great fighter can adapt on his own to his opponents style, weaknesses and strength. Muhammad Ali, Archie Moore, Alexis Arguello, Carlos Monzon, and Salvador Sanchez were the few smart fighters who could accomplish this, their ring IQ's were phenomenal. These guy were not co dependent on their corners, they took the initiative on their own, the mark of a great fighter.

Emile Griffith fits that description.

 

The first fighters I thought of who were thinking fighters was Gene Tunney, Jimmy Bivins, Archie Moore, Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Young.
