He's one of few fighters whose health I consistently feared for.

Juanma vs Salido 1 and 2 some of my favourite fights of all time. Crazy action. I don't know how these guys do it.

At one point Carnera is running away from the opponent who begins chasing him. Slumps on the ropes and begins is getting battered. He gets up and starts literally running again with his back turned while the opponent runs after him and catches him trying to leave the ring by leaping head first through the ropes.

    Excuse me but: :risas3:

He actually got his arm up and blocked the Gain's punch as he leaned back. It's a good showing of defense actually.

Carnera also puts him on his ass with a good pull back right counter the next time he tried it.

Nah, Ali did some things wrong, like leaning back and holding his hands low, but he was also a master at rolling with punches, could show good head movement (Bugner I, for example) and had some advanced counters, like the pull counter, down to a tee. He also had very good balance and ring generalship, which helped him defensively.

Ali never learned to slip a punch in his life and counter did he? It was all reflex

Yep. His lack of defence shortened his career dramatically.

    Yep.

Brilliant coming forward, not so much on the back foot!

Jeff Harding. His defense was non existent and won the title
from Dennis Andres on sheer tenacity and toughness which
even amazed a ringside Mike Tyson.
It is a sadly forgotten fight which was only beaten by Duran vs
Barkely as Fight of the Year 1989.

He was great at the pull counter with the right hand.

Nobody ever got beat to the punch more than Limon.

How he could take those picture perfect shots is really one of the more incredible things in boxing. Lots of guys have poor defenses and get hit----how many of them actually consistently trade with opponents? And can come out of wars like that every round maybe losing like 3 out of 4 exchanges. Once Bazooka started winning the exchanges, the fight was over. What a tough tough way to win fights. Just the conditioning alone it'd require is mindboggling.

    From the UK
A few boxers when they went with Joe Gallagher became very bad defence wise. John Murray for one.

Dave 'boy' Green I always thought had a terrible defence
