This came up in another thread but it's interesting I think.
To throw out a few names, early on Choynsky, McCoy, Fitz, Burns, Dillon, Levinsky, Langford (hard to know his weight a lot of the time) Greb (a middle?) Loughran, Stribling, Rosenbloom, Fox, Bivins, Conn, Moore, Harold Johnson and on to the modern days. Some might to argue Tunney, Charles, Maxim, Gibbons and many more like Jeff Clarke or Kid Norfolk.
I think it has to be more than a one off and the fighter had to be primarily a light-heavy but might stray a few pounds over 175 because he hasn't to make weight.
    Thoughts?

    Jem Mace?

    Joking aside.

Ezzard Charles was a force in the division, at a higher level, and for longer than most.

And Larry Foley... and Charley Mitchell!!
To start I'll go Fitz, Moore and Bivins.

Not necessarily top, but Loughran's trifecta of Braddock, Max Baer and Sharkey is notable-two future HW Champions, and a former conqueror. Schooled giants Campolo and Impellitiere, the latter 3X. Size doesn't appear to have been much of an obstacle for him at his best, despite what may have been less than a first rate chin. At the moment he defended against Walker, Tommy and Mickey may actually have been the two best heavyweights in the world. The way he turned around his series with Hamas to even it up after such a devastating loss to commence that rivalry is stunning.

Went down to Luna Park to beat Godoy in January 1935, then got robbed one year later of what even the Royal Albert Hall audience thought was a clear win over Farr. Wins over Schaaf (on the third try, immediately after the Baer masterclass), King Levinski 2X, Risko, Uzcudun, ect... Loughran could compete with anybody. A tremendous defense for Carnera to hang his reign on, because again, Tommy held wins over Campolo and Impellitiere going in. Primo couldn't beat him on height and reach alone, and needed championship distance stamina and conditioning to effectively impose his size and strength over the long haul. (Foreman may have been in very, very serious trouble in that situation.)

Pastrano could also compete with the big boys, and may have given Liston far more headaches than most would commonly suspect.

Ezzard Charles- Many consider him the best LHW ever. He was also HW Champ

Michael Moorer- WBO LHW Champ, WBO HW Champ, Lineal HW Champ (WBA/IBF belts), 2x IBF HW Champ

Michael Spinks- Lineal LHW and HW Champ

Archie Moore- LHW Champ, went 0-2 in HW World title fights

James Braddock- A good LHW, HW Champ

Bob Fitzsimmons- MW, LHW, and HW Champ
