Excellent shout, and reminding me of quality journeymen, who caused upsets over rated foreign opposition. Howard Clarke's (hope he is doing well, as can be expected :good) victory over Jason Papillon, actually got him Papillon's shot at Vargas, where once again, Clarke far from disgraced himself.

In fact, I would say Fitz had never been further removed from being British when he faced off with Corbett...he had been trying to integrate himself intothe States and had received American citizenship shortly before.

I can see why people class him as British, and I wouldn't kick up a fuss either way...I just don't see him like that myself. Although I do admit, he is labelled 'The Cornishman' or 'the hard punching Cornishman' by U.S reports as late as the Corbett fight...so I assume that the general consensous at the time was that he was a British fighter, even if I don't think he flew the flag that much.

Maybe I should do some re-evaluating? I do think my hypoethesis is valid though, I'm gonna' contemplate both arguments a bit further, an do a bit more research :good
