31 years old....87-0 (73 KOs). #1 P4P fighter alive. And he was past it, old and on the decline. atsch
And so your saying also that at 27, Pea should have fought him then...? So that would make Pernell was 25 and had a record of 16-1??? SO THIS IS WHEN PERNELL DUCKED CHAVEZ???? :huh 16-1 (even tho the 1 was one of the most disgusting robberies in the history of the sport) and you think he had the choice to fight the #1 p4p fighter in the world???? :huh Your serious? -edit- **** YEAH!!!!! I JUST MADE IT TO 2000 POSTS!!!! Can I be officially inducted into the no life club now??? :happy :happy :happy
I voted for RJJ, the guy was a beast inside the ropes.:thumbsup Can't say much about Whitaker since I haven't seem enough of his fights but JCC/Whitaker I did watch and I stand by it, it was a draw.:deal
My "official" vote went to Whitaker. My Real vote goes to Benny Leonard he defently had as much talant as anyone else in history. Whitaker beat Chavez wasn't even close. Chavez was in his prime but you could make an argument that he was over protected after he fought Taylor. Whitaker's preformance during that fight is still one of the most impresive of all time.:bbb
Gonna get hammered for this but I actually think a young Tszyu was the best boxer I'd ever seen. By the end of his career he'd become one-dimensional with overuse of his power but his amateur career and very early pro fights he had everything a boxer could want. Teddy Atlas and Chris Byrd both said an amateur Tszyu was the best boxer they'd seen. Ironically coming into the pro ranks he was known for subtle head movement, hooking off the jab and power in his left ... a far cry from the stationery power-puncher with a lethal right that he is commonly associated with now. He was the boxer the other boxers like De La Hoya and Mosely watched. Bit of a left field addition but if we're talking pure talent, he's up there.
:good Good post mate. I agree, and actually think he was still that same boxer in the pros, just to a lessor extent. He became a very rugged, tenacious and physical fighter in the pros which is how he was able to wear down guys who were faster then him. KT's biggest problem was his ego. He wouldn't fight smart fights against guys who were stronger then him. He was extremely talented in his prime though, however I don't think I would ever say the most talented.
Also voted for Jones Jr. With Pea a close second. After watching that Pea HL vid along with some of the fights I seen on youtube, I was absolutely amazed on how the HELL he dodged some of those punches. Pea was the Matrix before Keanu Reeves. Pea took the red pill. Anyway about the Mayweather/Pea/Jones Jr. defense argument Pea is definitly superior to both of those. Mayweather gets hit more often but uses his arms and shoulders to block alot of punches and he Rolls with punches VERY well. Jones also rolled with punches well and was usually at a good distance. Pea could be sitting in your lap and you throw 100 punches and he could somehow dodge them all. Its not even fair. Also seems a little more power than I first thought. I'm sad I missed boxing in Pea's era damn parents needed to do the deed couple years earlier
