Ali Sugar Ray Robinson Floyd Patterson SRL Hearns Hagler Tyson RJJ DLH Trinidad PBF Coralles Barrera JMM Hamed Morales Juan Diaz
Aside from the real obvious ones like Robinson and Ali and Duran, I'll mention some that no one else has....... Lionel Rose - this Australian aborigine, who won the bantamweight title from ATG Fighting Harada, was poetry in motion in a ring. One of the slickest, smoothest boxers you ever saw, seriously. The guy was scary good. He liked to drink though, and it undermined what should have been a great, great career. Barney Ross - Never stopped in his career, and he makes many ATG and P4P lists. Sam Langford - A fighter who stood about 5'8" and routinely KO'd heavies, its kind of hard to know where natural talent and the benefit of experience intersected with him, but he was such a natural fighter. Just a machine.
Camacho, early on. People forget he was never KO'd Salvador Sanchez. KO'd monster W. Gomez, Azumah, Lil Red. Only 23 when he died. Best days were in front of him Ali: Revolutionary. Two completely different fighters pre/post exile SRR: How many fights undefeated? 400, 500? PBF: Give him credit haters! Tyson: Early on like Camacho. Thought he was unbeatable. Marciano: It's a stretch but: so unorthodox, so powerful, craziest angles, always able to reach his opponents chin, underrated defense. So unnatural yet so effective makes him strangely talented. Many more but there's list #1
In no particular order, I'll throw out a couple guys that should get mentioned along with the obvious names others have listed: Joe Calzaghe, Gene Tunney. Like an earlier poster, I agree there's too many guys that could fit the description. It's all about what you personally look for in a fighter to make them "the most talented". Is it athleticism, skill from working that much harder than the next guy and having the drive to perfect the craft (or maybe the guy that could do well without giving a damn), power, heart....too many variables to just have one measure of "talent".
Talent??Guess it depends on one's definition..But here goes,to mention a few: SRR:IMO the closest thing to a perfect fighter of all-time.Had everything but a dicy defence. Ali:Considering the size of the man..revolutionised boxing.Did things most MWs would only dream of.At his best...pre-exile,one word...poetry. Hearns:If only he had a better chin...perhaps better legs....I still say Tommy would have been unbeatable.Invincible.Evry other skill he had in abundance.Better than most on this list. SRL:Love him or hate him...Sugar Ray had it all.Perhaps could have accomplished more if not for the start-stop career.Even with that, his resume is unbelievable. RJJ:Say what you want,at his peak..this cat was,and remains, the most physically gifted fighter in history. At 160-168,he still has no equals in sheer athletic ability.Did things no-one before,or after him could do.Mayweather,SRR,SRL,Whitaker etc included.Too bad he never reached for the stars. He had the ability to KO everyone he's ever met in the ring.Bar none. Duran:His accomplishments alone....from LW to LHW...Duran had and unbelievable well of talent...Absolute monster at LW.A heart to match anyone on this list. I'll add some more later.
Nah, you've overstated this. I at least see where you're coming from though: Zab could have been much better than he amounted to before eventually becoming a total ****ing loser. I think a crucial thing that you left out is his trainer. His dad was the greatest liability to his career. "ZAB! YOU GOT TA LET YO HANDS GO! BAH! BAH! BAH! BAH! THROW YO HANDS BAH BAH BAH!!! DON'T LET HIM WHOOP YA, BAH BAH BAH BAH!!!"
Definitely Greg Page, Ray Leonard, Howard Davis Jr, Bernard Taylor, Wilfredo Gomez, Wilfred Benitez, and Donald Curry.
