For the heavies, anyway, I think I'd pick Joe Louis. Everything was just so "pure" about his every move.
While we're at it, let's add Cuevas, Mayorga, Ponce De Leon, etc. Seriously, what the hell is with some of the choices in this thread?
I can see an argument for Louis offensively, but his defence wasn't good enough. Ricardo Lopez, Juan Manuel Marquez and probably Alexis Arguello too. I think Marquez and Lopez have the first two positions tied up.
Marquez and Arguello were\are hardly defensive geniuses either.Depends how much you want to bring ability into the equation i suppose. Jofre Ohba Canto
Duran, Toney, and Mayweather are all very technical fighters, but they go about their business in an unorthodox manner. I wouldn't call them textbook fighters in terms of their stances, defensive tacticts (especially Toney and Mayweather) and techniques.
EderJofre is pretty complete imo..Best "pure"boxers include,Dricoll,Pep,H Johnson,Canto,Ricardo Lopez ,from what I have seen of him was very solid. Two more Europeans,Buchanan, and Locche.Conn could do it ,but liked to brawl, more classical out of the bigger guys Loughran.
