Frazier has to be right up there. The FOTC and Manila are irrefutable examples of fighter who would literally die before yielding.

And getting back up each and every time against Foreman in Jamaica - who else could do that?

IMO, Foreman never hit anyone else so hard, so flush and so often as he did poor Smoking Joe.

I seriously cannot say with any certainty that even Ali would’ve still been standing IF he was hit exactly as Joe was. No wonder folks feared for Ali’s well being going into Zaire.

 

Nipper Pat Daley started at 8 and had a hundred plus fights and retired at 18. Baby Az (I’m not spelling his name lol) started at 10. Grown men won’t fight untrained amateurs in the street to protect there women but a small kid from Mexico is willing to fight pros for fun. Shame.

 

On the money buddy, as for Hudkins the NY boxing commission ( chairman William Muldoon ) actually bared Ace from fighting in NY because as Muldoon put it " he has no ethics, he is a animal pure and simple, and doesn't belong in a boxing ring " say what ???.
He rivals all the great infighters, his body punching was renowned and feared , the great Mickey Walker ( no mean body puncher himself ) was reticent to get in close with Hudkins, 2 days in bed was Lew Tendler's reward for engaging Ace in his favourite pastime, Hudkins was feared by many of his contemporaries, he was pretty much unstoppable, had limitless stamina, and worst of all harboured genuine animosity for most of his foes, his nose was broken multiple times, to the extent that he could hardly breath through it, opponents have described hearing a hissing, spitting, sound omitting from Hudkins mouth when in close, adding to his already formidable reputation.
Can you imagine him and Briscoe sharing the ring.......

Excellent call with Finnegan, if he had the punch to match his chin, stamina, and courage, would prob have picked up a title.

I read the same article, it went on to point out that lots of his opponents spoke of a strange oily substance that omitted from Joe's body , and there was talk of maybe that's why he was so inhumanely durable , strange but true .

A lot of names come to mind, Frazier fighting his whole career blind in one eye. Joe Gans fighting 20 odd round while likely suffering tb. According to Angelo Dundee Chavez was the toughest fighter he'd seen.

No Marciano so far? The man was able to go for 20 rounds with full force and never cared if being punched, no to mention the power he possessed. Fairly deserves to be if not the toughest (I'd say he is), but one of the most.
