Aaron Pryor is overrated quite often, especially by The Ring Magazine in their 2002 rankings. Mike Tyson is overrated by the general public a lot, but also underrated by those who think he was just some guy who beat bums and lost any fight when someone wasn't scared. Michael Spinks is underrated by those who remember the Tyson massacre, and forget what a wonderful LHW he was, who also went up to become the lineal HW champ of the world. "What could have been" fighters tend to get overrated, such as Gerald McClellan and Ike Ibeabuchi. They were good fighters, but the way people talk about them, you'd think they showed way more than they actually did. I think all fighters are both underrated and overrated to some extent. It depends on who's doing the rating.

Pernell Whitaker is the most under ratted boxer of all time. In terms of in he ring skills/tallent/abillity. Sweet Pea is as good as it gets. So what if he had only 46 fights. Most boxers with 100+ fights often have little to no amature experance, and a lot of those 100 fights are meaningless exibations called Non-Tittle fights. He is a four deivison world champion. The list of guys I'd pick to beat him at lightweight is Benny Leonard. At welterweight I'd pick just a hand full of guys to beat him.
When I saw this thread I knew it wouldn't be long before some idiot came on claiming Ali was over-rated. Iwasn't wrong. Give me a ****ing break, the guy was incredible.
Herol Graham was quite under-rated, though his ko after dominating Jackson is one of the most brutal out there. Man JJ had the most devestating one punch power I've ever seen. :ko

Sumbu Kalambay is one of the most underrated for me, its easy to forget, cause he got knocked out by Nunn, that he outboxed McCallum, schooled Barkley, knocked the iron chinned De Witt out, beat Herol Graham 2x, beat Steve Collins. Aside from his record, he had an excellent skill-set, and was a very smooth, slick mover/counter puncher. Not overrated cause he's not a very good fighter, but overrated by FANS, based on who he beat, although watching him, despite the names on his record, you know he was top echelon fighter, that would be Kostya Zoo for me. Yes I know I spelled it like that, I meant to
Hatton is definately underated. Loses to the two best of his generation and he gets called a bum. Overated definately Judah - has yet to beat a world class fighter.
