Sonny Liston and Jack Dempsey are the most overrated fighters I have ever seen.

 

99% of the fighter he beat are just mexican cab drivers.

You think Willard is overrated , interesting , on a personal note I have put him in the same or similar bracket as , Sharkey, Carnera , not read volumes about people singing his praise's ? but that's just my take , we all have our own opinions in this sport. keep well.

Overrated: Naseem Hamed, Antonio Tarver, Virgil Hill

 

Underrated: Kalambay, Tommy Ryan, Lausse, Laciar, Fenech.

Overrated: Olivares, Ricardo Lopez, Wilde, Saddler, Jofre.

It's all relative, mind you. All of the guys I've listed as overrated WERE great fighters in the proper sense. Just afforded slightly too much credit, and have some of their failings airbrushed out of the picture a little too easily, for my liking.

 

Sugar Ray Leonard has become an UNDERRATED fighter ...because of boxing forums and Duran apologists

 

Carlos Monzon is not one of the 20 greatest fighters who ever lived

 

I agree with you on Dempsey

 

Willard beat Johnson in a fight with thr rule setup to make him a winner. He outpointed a poor Moran and...maybe drew with a young McCarty. Lost to Tom McMahon, a light heavyweight on a 3 fight losing streak, Joe Cox, who never beat anyone else of note, Gunboat, Rodel...I rate him miles below Sharkey.

 

His killer instinct might be his most underrated trait.

 

I personally can't stand him, but IMHO, he is the 2nd greatest welter ever and one of the best/most complete fighters I have ever seen.
