joe calzaghe!! underrated because he never fought anyone truly great in their prime. his boxing skills arent in question to most boxing fans but i just wish he would have fought some greater fighters in his time.
I think Calzaghe is rated quiet well in relation to what he achieved, now granted he underachieved and as you say most of us know his true talents and that he hog spits more boxing then others who get far more praises. But then again i think someone like Hatton achieved more then Joe in relation to his talent. Its just frustrating because we know how good he really is/was.
Calzaghe is overrated. He makes a lot of fans top 3's on the basis of the '0'. He had great talent, but how would he have fared in a super-middle-less World? Because there aren't many 175lbers I'd pick Joe against throughout history, as aforementioned Conteh would beat him handily, and I'd give him 0% chance against the likes of Foster, Charles, Spinks, Saad, Qawi and Moore. But Calzaghe clearly had ability. Tactical shifts throughout fights showed his adaptibility, and whilst not a great puncher, he had fast hands and an unorthodox punching style that made him hard to gauge (as close as the B-Hop fight was, the fact that they both cancelled each other out to an extent showed that Calzaghe was at least on B-Hop's level on that night, although alltime it's no contest) So I think he actually gets overrated. As Kos said, Calzaghe can sometimes get overlooked now because it's 'cool' to do so (and IMO entirely justified) but I still think the majority of people think he's amongst the greatest of all time, and the fact is that he isn't. And to those who say 'if he'd fought Prime Jones the result woulda been the same' well he didn't and it wouldn't have been.
I love Calderon. I still think he has enough to box Segura's head off, but if Joyi moves up I'd fear for Calderons run of success to end.
