Most underrated fighter on here

With that said he and Roy Jones should have fought at some point. He had the power to get Roy's attention. Would have been a fun matchup.

there are thousands of underated fighters on here and every Boxing Site.

it's always a 3 Fold reason too.

1) Achievements Based placement or ranking
2) Ownership and "in the Pocket" HYPE and Mickey Mouse Titles

3) and the People who perpetuate it...


1) - as though Winning or Holding a World Title, sums it all up...
it doesn't, Boxing is a Business and a Corrupt one at that. So many great fighters never got the same opportunity to Hold One. this is also proven by the 'odd' not so great fighter, who did get a chance and capitalized on it.

2) - Fight Careers Protected and 'Insured' both in exposure and opportunity, often against Handpicked Opponents past and Especially the Present Era.

3) - it's just as easy to collect Title Holder Info & Contender's info, Divide Countries into Strongest Countries, list accordingly, make collective lists based on that and then Seperate the BEST from Lesser Countries and likewise Remove the not so great from Better county Lists, also Divide by Best to Weakest Era's... therefore trying to Compile More Honest & Accurate Lists

Not Fullproof, but far, far better than Achievements alone.

 

Benn won two world titles abroad and defended them 10-12x against Eubank (x2), Barkley and McClellan when nobody else would face them. He is streets ahead of Tony Sibson, of course.

The middle and super middle divisions weren’t unified in the 90s, until Hopkins and Calzaghe in the 00s did it. So there was no #1 or #2 or whatever.

KO magazine had McClellan #2 lb4lb before the Benn fight (and had had Jackson #2 behind Chavez). Not that it matters - all subjective nonsense. Toney and Jones weren’t the best at their weights because they never unified all four belts - they looked extremely good of course but only held the IBF. Only Hopkins and Calzaghe proved it (decades later).

 

We can all agree Nigel Benn was a very special fighter. A one-off.

Love both fighters but might've rooted for Benn in that one. He'll land on RJJ, just not sure how solid and how often.

Big Benn fan I am. Him, Bruno and Hatton are my 3 favorite Brits.

 

He was mighty lucky to get the decision in the first Malinga fight too I always thought.

Top excepted Era's in Order
Top 10 - 25 in all categories and then 'tweeked' to order, i.e Best and worst from Nations and Era's

you can easily have about 300 great fighters or more, and you can group them, for Example, Elite Stand alone fighters like Greb, SRR, Tyson and the rest would be in categories like GREAT, Great, great, because at the TOP there truly is little between them.

there are thousands of great fighters, thousands, so all this 'achievement based nonsense is both INACCURATE & Insulting too the multitude of great fighters and very good just as near capable...

it's not hard really for you stat chasers.... Countries first, Era's next, Top 10 to 25 men, more 'IF' required, summing them up and then 'trying to place them in & out of order... it would be a great excercise for a few Boxing geeks to do.

it won't be perfect but it'd be a lot more accurate than BoxRec, ACHIEVENT Based Lists, P4P nonsense and bias building.

just try and list the Countries and Regions in order, the fighters from each, same with the Era's and then the Teirs, then the moving around to 'try' to best place the fighters. present the Lists and have OPEN Dialogue... simple

a lot more HONEST & RESPECTFUL to ALL of these GREAT, Great and great fighters.

 

Ok, I'll try to ask again - how do you objectively rank eras from "best to weakest"?

turn of the Century - 1910s (perhaps a list all on its own, Cruder fighters)

Regions by Strongest Pool of fighters (General Consensus)

MEXICO (Loads)
Central & South America (Some)

these Countries would be the most laborious groups to put together, a bit of time, but Not at all impossible...

• Lineal Title Holders (Not always the Best Persey)
• Ring TOP 10 and WORLD Classed Grouped Fighters (not always in the right slot, ie a Fringe Grouped fighter could be in fact better than a Top 10 fighter)
• National TOP 10 or more, if a fighter or two fits

• All-Time Great Lists (too often Achievement based, but useful for adjusting placements throughout grouping.
• BoxRec (poor ratings, but suppler of Names, just like the other Ratings Orgs.

So it is an EASY Template and the Lesser Nations all only through up few names, so that the easy place to start, then carry on through the Groups fewer to many fighters...

You will end up FORSURE 300 - 500 Fighters, but it could Easily be a 1000
