Can an ATG be underrated? I think so, and feel that Evander Holyfield is. Had he retired after say the Michael Moorer rematch, I think he leaves the sport with complete legendary status. Sadly a victim of fighting on too long and tarnishing his own legacy. Even when he was a shadow of himself he was still incredibly competitive and ridiculously competent

Juan Laporte...former world champion, fought well against Sal Sanchez in his 17th fight, many observers felt he deserved the nod against prime JCC
Marlon Starling...two-time WW champion, lost SD to a prime Curry
Jeff Fenech...1984 Olympian, won his first world championship in 10th pro fight, three weight champion, robbed of a 4th against Nelson
John John Molina...1984 Olympian, multiple time world champion, a true road warrior
Virgil Hill...Olympic silver medalist, two-weight world champion, made 10 defenses in his first reign
Reggie Johnson...most remembered for his loss to prime RJJ despite being a two-weight world champion and giving prime Toney all he could handle
Stevie Johnston...underrated technician, overshadowed by Mosley and Tszyu
Mark Johnson...Black American in a division most dominated by foreign fighters
Oba Carr...terribly unlucky to be around when Quartey, Trinidad, and DLH were champions at 147

James Shuler ( life cut tragically short in a motorcycle accident )

Orzubek Nazarov---tough skilled but career cut short by gun shot wound

Andrey Afonin ---- skilled heavyweight but overlooked because he's not a KO puncher.

Carlos Ortiz because an argument can be made that he has a better lightweight resume than Roberto Duran.

I'm debating whether or not to put Sven Ottke in. I think he had 22 title defenses albeit against "good" opposition but I can't think of a "great" fighter he beat.

Was effective but very dull also a lot of his fights were home town decisions IMO. He wasn't under appreciated by the German fans ether just the rest of the world.

    Humberto Soto

Soto won world titles in 3 weight classes and was avoided by Pac, JMM, Maidana, Robert Guerrero, Morales, Barrera, and so many others.
Matthysse beat him cause he intentionally fouled him with intentional rabbit punches.
Guzman beat him cause he intentionally fouled him with headbut and low blow.

He lost fights early in his career cause he was mismanaged early in his career and was out of shape in short noticed fights.

    Juan "El Pollo" Valenzuela

When he was in top shape, he was unbeatable.
Valenzuela took fights on short notice and outclassed then unbeaten Ricardo Williams.
He lost fights early in his career cause he was mismanaged early in his career and was out of shape in short noticed fights.

My profile pic. Has been a world-class operator for more than a decade now. One of the smoothest fighters around. Three-division world champion. Definitely one of the best fighters to come out of the country....but people don't give him recognition because he's in the lower weights.
