Most underrated journeyman of all time?

Emmanuel Augustus was pretty entertaining to watch and he had some pretty decent fights. His fight against Floyd was pretty good, back when Mayweather fights were entertaining.

 

Fel Clemente (record of 13-13). Gave Danny Lopez a tough outing that ended in controversy where an accidental clash of heads took place but instead of going to a technical decision it was ruled a DQ in Lopez’s favor much to the boos from the audience. Clemente arguably won the majority of the rounds prior to the end.

Clemente has fought and loss to fighters such as Salvador Sanchez, Bobby Chacon, Ruben Castillo, Rocky Lockridge, Juan Laporte. He did score an upset win over Romeo Anaya.

Clemente looks pretty good against Lopez.

He was extremely durable and took literally every fight that came his way.

 

Jesse 'The Boogey-Man' Ferguson

 

I agree I met him in Ft Worth Texas where he fought Antonio Margarito. Had a long chat with him he had lots of stories to tell. Like he fought twice in the same week & then went one better He fought on the card & was told another fighter had apparently chickened out & left. We haven't got anyone else to fight him they said. You have said Buck You got me. He fought & won under his own name then again about an hour later under another name & won both by KO lol. He said I got well paid for some easy work lol.His motto was same as the Drunken Masters Any Time, Anywhere, Anyone Just give me time to get there LOL They were two of a kind real fighters that sadly never took themselves seriously. Both should be in the HOF in my book

 

Tony "KO King" Gardner. Went on a tear and scored 22 straight knockouts over all sorts of local Oklahoma and Kansas fighters all the way from Junior Middles to Light Heavyweights and actually got a world title shot against Elisha Obed as a last minute replacement. Then became a noted trainer /cutman for Abercrombie in Houston and matchmaker for Ashlock in Orlando and even promoted some shows in his hometown area around Tennessee and Arkansas.

 

A long forgotten fighter today, but back in the day, Tommy Tibbs, a Boston lightweight, was always a danger-man. Finished with an unimposing record of 60-77-4, but besides the fact that he fought everyone - and fought in 13 countries to boot - every so often Tommy could spring the upset. He managed to beat Willie Pep, Lauro Salas, Paulie Armstead, Johnny Bizarro, Larry Boardman and was the man to break the undefeated record of Harold Gomes. Tough fighter.

 

I came to post Ferguson. Good call.

But since we’re here, I’ll throw in 1970s middleweight David Love of San Diego.

He beat a generation of tough Philly middles (Bennie Brisco, Wrom Monroe and Boogaloo Watts) before finally being worn down and stopped by Curtis Parker. Also beat Marcos Geraldo a couple of times.

His losses include Lousif Hamani, Bernard Mays, Bruno Acari, Ray Seales and Rudy Robles, with only Acari stopping him.

 

Superb shout.

 

Probably as good a shout as anyone, ever imo.
