Who is the most underrated 175lber ever? here's my three and reasoning 1. Jimmy Bivins Excellent résumé with wins over Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Joey Maxim, Charley Burley, Buddy Knox, Teddy Yarosz, Gus Lesnivich and Lloyd Marshall 2. Tommy Loughran Again Excellent résumé with wins over Jack Sharkey, Max Baer, Barney Ross, Mickey Walker, Harry Greb, Jackie Clark, Jess Smith, Mike McTigue, Young Stribling, George Carpinter and Jim Braddock I think he's better than Bivins but gets rated higher too 3. Maxie Rosenbloom Unbelievable Longevity, Excellent Résumé He beat John Henry Lewis, Mickey Walker, Jimmy Slattery, Ted Kid Lewis, Frankie Schoell, Barney Ross, Tiger Flowers and Dave Shade
Also was on the lower end of the greatest weight discrepancy in a bout. Was near 100lbs if I recall, against Carnera.
Idk I thought it was Haye and Valuev Edit: the difference between Haye and Valuev is 99lbs and 84lbs between Carnera and Loughran
But just about anybody who actually rates all-time light-heavyweights rates Loughran extremely highly. Loughran's problem is that most boxing fans have never really heard of him or his career accomplishments. Sorry if I'm being nitpicky but I think that's different.
Very good list. I will add a recent fighter that doesn't get talked about much. Zsolt Erdei. He was an excellent amatuer fighter that beat some pretty good fighters as a pro. Unfortunately he never was able to land a big fight against Jones, Tarver or Hopkins. With his hand speed, workrate and toughness he would have a been a handful for those guys.
Seriously? On this forum, posters usually rate him to beat anybody who ever scaled 175 H2H. It’s ridiculous. He had a gifted left hand and a more gifted head butt and yet you’d think he was SRR reading about him in Classic.
Matt Donnellon made a good case for Jeff Clark. Edit Here's his post https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/the-most-underrated-light-heavyweight-heavyweight-ever.609286/
That's what I meant by people rank him higher in the OP but in the post you quoted I said that because not as many people know about him
