Tyson, all you have to do is stand up to him like Holyfield did and Tyson will crumble

klompton dropped a killer list in the uncrowned MW thread. All except Gibbons (and even Gibbons to some extent) are UR to some extent I think. Willie Ritchie, Johnny Dundee, Owen Moran, George Dixon are either UR or less remembered for some reason. Well there's simply tons out there.

Oscar De La Hoya. It's become quite uncool to like and rate DeLahoya prob because he comes across as a bit of a poonani.

Fact is he was a greatfighter with a great rrecord.

Tommy Burns and his birthing hips are regarded as a punchline rather than fodder for serious discussion. Burns pretty much unites modernist critics and old-timers, who all consider him a chubby supermiddleweight who kept the heavyweight throne warm for Johnson. At best.

So yeah, I'd say he's underrated.

    James Buster Douglas.

He was a sleeping giant who was finaly able to be the fighter he could have been from the Tucker fight and up to Tokyo. Then he should have retired.

Imagine his legacy (and TYsons) had buster took an easier fight than Holyfeild and retired on a win?

Not saying buster was top 20 ATG but he was no "bum who got lucky". The class was always there, he finaly got the oppertunity to shine and shone brightly....allbeit before letting himself down no worse than Liston did in Lewiston.

He'd probably be remembered like Riddick Bowe is.

That's probably an accurate assessment, too.

If you look at Azzers comment maybe that's what the opening poster is talking about.

    Bullseye !

How many times do we need to hear about Joe's (weak) chin or Tyson losing to the first man who stood up to him ... simply revisionist history by the clueless, regurgitating nonsense.

Again, my point. Burns was a small light heavyweight that knocked heavyweights cold. He easily defeated an all time great in Jack O'Brien. He easily defeat Marvin Hart who KO'ed Jack Root and gave a prime Johnson a wicked battle. Burns also stood up to terrific punishment from Johnson and was standing and fighting till the ref stopped the fight .. put aside your interest in his curvature and study the fighter .. :p
