Yea, if he fought today in his prime, a great deal of our conversations regarding the heavyweights would be one sided. He not only had the talent and physical ability to dominate. He had a mentality that just clicked on the moment he walked down that isle that made it seem like the guy across from him would be taking his last breath tonight....lol. And the heavyweights today aren't very defensively savvy like they were 25/30 years ago. What would they have to keep that man off of them......

 

I have been saying for a long time how easy these modern lumps are to hit. They are definitely not as savvy, and rely more on brute size and dimensions. Even Usyk with his great amateur style and movement gets hit very often. It's why I think Mike would butcher him

 

I would say that Tyson is very similar to Floyd Patterson. This is due to them having the same trainer but I still agree with your overall statement

 

Thats a good point they share similar traits especially regarding their peek a boo style mastered by Cus.

 

I have to say Marciano. He was so incredibly unorthodox and 'awkward' that in many cases his opponent had to adapt new styles and change their tactics while Marciano never changed his strategy. I don't think there will ever be another fighter so seemingly bad and also so successful.

 

Augustus is an obvious one.
I always thought Michael Katsides was a strange one, would literally run into danger and was so one-handed its like he thought he had shield on one arm and a sword in the other and would just blaze away.
Naz frequently off balance switch hitting with huge power isn't something you see often.
Loma is fairly unusual with his feints and angles.

Carlos Maussa - brere threw the worst most ugly looking shots, no true guard, feet always splayed out. yet the amount of times he befuddled real quality fighters. cotto (140lb version) decided to jab circle, hatton to lunge for follow up counters. surreal style for a world champion.

Andrew Lewis- flicking jab with massive southpaw right upppercut with almost no torque behind his punches but could obliterate
Wayne Alexander- like a locust who threw his jab like a deer trying to stand up. then wham.
Buster Drayton- southpaw? orthy? slugger? swarmer? boxer? seemed like he made it up as he went along
Jermain Taylor- strange guard and neutral position. always ontop of his lead leg, his jab while shifting to his left looked perfect. but his feet absolutly planeted to the floor. his right hand thrown like he was drawing back a bow and arrow.

 

You make too much sense with your logic here. I totally agree with you. But watch these new age fans claim to have more knowledge about the technique of boxing because they are a fan of an active fighter today.....lol.

 

Have any of these guys watched fighters from the early decades. The 80s had some very well schooled fighters. They had Holmes first then Mike to contend with. If Frank Bruno was around now, I believe he would stiffen Aj and Dubois too.

 

Sam Soliman had one of the most unique ugly styles I have ever seen but it worked for him and he won a world title and has some good wins on his resume.
