The most unpopular I remember was Liston.
It was commonplace to hear and read that he would destroy boxing with his mob ties.

A very close second was Ali during the 1960s. His mouth and draft dodging made him a lot of enemies.

Maybe Ali was more unpopular than Liston. They were close.

    Fritzie Zivic,

An unfairly, unappreciated great, John Ruiz was disliked by some philistines and neophytes.

The cognoscenti of the sport truly understand his greatness.

I am surprised Senor Pepe has not got here yet.

Maybe he wet himself in excitement, and does not want to touch any electrical appliances at the moment...

For once, in Pepe's defence, Ali would be a good call here.

Harold Johnson. He was so technically good that he wasn't appreciated by the fans of knuckle-dragging blood, guts and gore.

Sammy Angott was routinely booed for his safety first 'clutch' style even though he notched an amazing list of scalps including some over Jenkins, Montgomer, and William.

And the guy lined up to fight Robinson THREE times, when he was a lightweight and Ray was a massive welterweight. That takes some serious stones.
