I personally think that people overstate or misuse the idea of technique in boxing.

    Jess Willard
    Deontay Wilder
    Stanley Ketchel

These guys are all successful at boxing, but are reputed to have poor technique.
Who are some boxers who had great technique, but who didn't succeed like these guys?

well you can have great technique but if you don't have the physical attributes it's very very hard to get to the top, just like 5 foot 7 NBA player will struggle. Alot of great old fighters had great technique and boxing IQ but simply didnt have the reflexes and the speed to compete anymore. There are tons and tons of fighters that box better or "more textbook" than deontay wilder but they're not even close to being famous.

So your questin could essentially be rephrased as "name boxers who didnt have enough physical talent?" and the answer would be a list of names that would be thousands or millions long.

Lee Ramage would be a case in point.

He was seen as being a peerless technician by many contemporaries, but he seems to have lacked the robustness to exploit it.

On a professional level, Odlanier Solis, although his technique made him a top ten contender instead of Dustin Nichols' rival.

The Carlos Maussa v Vivian Harris fight deserves mention.

Alex Stewart had skill and power but froze and choked in his big fights, a big part of boxing is mental

Charlie Burly by far the best technician never to win a world title.

Howard Davis Jr. Sadly could never manage the final hurdle when it came to the world title.

I remember him. Better known for a win against Roberto Duran but I remember seeing on tape a couple of fights he had against title contender, Colin Jones and they were funny in they were almost identical mirror image fights. Laing is comfortably outboxing Jones but is reliant too much on his reflexes and speed as he drops his hands too much. Jones finally catches him with a clean shot and the fight is soon over. When the identical happens in the second fight , it was funny in that I was thinking, Lol, some guys just never learn.

The answer to this thread would be too obscure. I mean, a boxer can have A LOT of technique and zero success, simply because they lack heart or determination.
Probably someone with mostly losses on their record.

In fact, "probably" doesn't cover it.
It would DEFINITELY be someone with more losses than wins. A winning record in itself is a success story.
