I'd like to see Wlad rematch the golfer, and if he cannot land that fight, perhaps a bout against Tiger Woods would suffice my curiousity. :smoke
Joe Louis? Put those 6 oz gloves on Wlad and he would perhaps KO Louis with his jab. Put the current 10 oz gloves on Joe Louis and see how devastating he still is as a puncher. It takes mass to penetrate extra padding with power. Louis was great in an era when regular heavyweights were around and below 200 pounds and the occasional big man like Carnera was that era's Valuev. The modern day 240 pound fighters who can actually box a little like Lewis/Klitschko would be extremely difficult to beat for most ATG's of past eras. Sure, you can point out Wlad's losses and comclude that Ali, Louis etc. are much better fighters than Purrity or Sanders. You could just as easily assume that Wlad would destroy Schmeling and that 188 pound guy Jones who gave a prime Ali a hell of a fight. Wald on his worst day is very vulnerable, like many great fighters of the past. Wlad on his best day is at least a difficult opponent for anyone in history.
Lennox Lewis. Lewis could get chance to prove his skills against another olympic champ with similar size.
If it were TODAY, with Wlad's current skills....He could beat ***ANY*** of these guys! Not saying he does, but I'd give him 50/50 for everybody. Louis, Marciano, Ali he makes look small. Louis did have some amazing punching power, but it would't be so amazing against a solid 240 pd man (plus like somebody pointed out much heavier gloves). His fight with a prime Tyson wouldn't last long. Tyson would either get inside, and rip him apart, OR Wlad would knock his ass out while he's trying to come in. Lewis and Vitali both would be awesome fights. I think with Wlad's current skill he is a reflection of Lewis, and we all know Lewis can be knocked out as well. Vitali would be his worst possible choice. The guy can obviously take a punch, and give one in return, plus he's taller than Wlad. I'm really doubting he can beat big brother, but it's possible.
Tyson had immense problems against taller boxers. Tyson KOed ONLY bums (= below usable margin = loss:win career ratio 1:3 or worse) smaller guys (6'3'' or smaller) EVERY taller boxer Tyson faced HE COULD NOT KO (except Lou Savarese). Tyson had even problems with boxers I do not actually consider stellar: James Bonecrusher Smith (6'4'') UD12 Tyrell Biggs (6'5'') (chinachin) TKO7 AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PRIME TYSON HERE. Of course Tyson had a puncher's chance, but his performances DO NOT SUPPORT THE ASSUMPTION that Tyson had much of a chance against Klitschko. By the way: Buster Douglas is 6'3.5'' and Lennox is 6'5''. Wlad (6'6.5'') would be Tyson's TALLEST opponent he has ever faced and the opponent with the HIGHEST KO ratio Tyson has ever faced (even higher than Tyson himself). The pictures you have of Tyson KOing boxers left and right are either bums or small boxers. See this picture: http://www.boxnews.com.ua/foto.php?gid=56&id=14991&lng=en#top This is Klitschko and ODLH. Oscar is TALLER than Tyson.
Ali hardly KOed anyone. Ali was a featherfist as is typical for natural cruisers (Ali, Michael Moore, Byrd, Ruiz, Holyfield, Toney etc). Since I cannot imagine featherfist Ali KOing Klitschko the fight would either go 12 rounds or Klitschko KOing Ali. Since Ali has some of THE WORST DEFENSE I have ever witnessed (he basically gets hit with every jab you throw at him) I cannot see Ali withstanding 12 rounds with Klitschko. Moreover Klitschko would be Ali's TALLEST AND HEAVIEST opponent (if you ignore fatty Buster Mathis), while Ali (6'4'') would be Klitschko's AVERAGE TALL and AVERAGE HEAVY opponent. The only other way would be Klitschko gassing (like Foreman) because of Ali's granite jaw (let us suppose for a moment that Ali's opponents actually had some power compared to nowadays heavies so that one can actually claim that his jaw was granite).
Oh, damn I forgot Foreman on that list. I knew something was missing atsch I would have added Foreman I and Foreman II.
Wlad would beat Louis and Marciano. He would beat the lesser version Tysons. I think he beats Vitali better offence, but who knows. I would love to see him vs Ali and Lewis.
See this picture? http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/joe-louis-photo-01.jpg I can imagine NO WAY how Joe Louis (6'2'', natural cruiser, started with 180+) could beat Wladimir Klitschko. Marciano has some of the most bumm'ed up records I have seen (Eric Esch Effect). Basically all of his fights are against bums. Marciano in his entire career was always BELOW 190 and has boxed ONLY TWICE against an opponent 200+: 37 year old Joe Louis and chinachinned Don Cockell. The most diplomatic statement we can make about Marciano is: We have too little data.
