The thread title should be changed to How Many Happy Paper Belt Holders have Britain Had At One Time, I might be able to answer then.

That would be better Jack, the term ''world champion'' should only ever be used for the number 1 in the division.

Arthur was Interim champion I wouldn't exactly have called him world champion, the term world champion is thrown around so easily in boxing.Robert Guerrero being branded a six time world champion the perfect example.

Best in recent times was around 2008 when we had Hatton, Calzaghe and Haye as the genuine champions in their respective divisions. 3 out of 17 legit divisional number 1s was pretty impressive for a country like ours.

I can't see that happening again for a long time.

I'm not sure. We've had/still got some good chances recently to get proper champions again:

Haye at heavy, could rematch Wlad one day perhaps.
Afolabi at cruiser, if he gets the nod against Huck next time.
Cleverly at light heavy, of course he'd have to fight someone decent to see if he'd have a chance or not.
Froch at super middle, if Ward moves up Froch could establish dominance.
Murray came very close to being the man at middle.
Khan at light welter, still just about in the mix but would need a big turnaround.
Burns has a half decent shot at clearing up lightweight.

A lot of potential there IMO.

Put in that context, it's not as unlikely as I first thought, although I have more chance of banging Debbie Mcgee than Cleverly being the man at light-heavy.

    excellent, and isn't that justice!

that before the proliferation of titles begin, the very man that they Denied his 'own' opportunities, Bert Gilroy, he is associated with the fighters that held titles when Briatain had 2 World Champions during the traditional 8 divisions... as either there leading opponent or coach & trainer to the champions that followed.

    quite strange indeed! :deal
