These are the guys who know how to hold, an overlooked and often ugly skill. Some guys use it offensively, holding and hitting or mauling and wearing their man down. Others use it defensively when hurt or to frustrate opponents. Feel free to contribute.

    Sammy Angott (all purpose clinches)
    Jack Johnson (frustrating and defense)
    Sandy Saddler (dirty, offensive)
Muhammad Ali (behind the head, defense, pacing)
    Wladimi Klitschko (pacing, defense)
    Gene Fullmer (mauling)
    Jung Koo Chang (pacing, tiring)

    Good thread.
    I'll nominate:
Monzon: Used the clinch when opponent got inside. He tied the opponent up, then forces them to try and climb the mountain again...through the incoming. One reason (among many) that make him tough to beat at middle.
Charles: Hand and head placement allow him to score first, while simultaneously suffocating an opponent's offense. Masterclass inside fighter.
    Ali: Master of control.
Johnson: Nuff said...the originator...prob where Charles and Ali took notes.

Duran clinched so he could slap the solar plexus on the break.
It went undetected and sapped energy out of his opponent.

John Ruiz belongs on any greatest clinchers of all time list with his constant "jab-and-grab" style.

    So far unmentioned :
Tyson - a very underrated excessive clincher
Hopkins - holding and hitting specialist. A good butter too.
Marchegiano - Truly disgusting to watch
    Tunney

in modern times id say Hopkins, mayweather, klitchko, kell brook
less recently lennox lewis was a serial clincher.
Ali clinched a lot post exile but was no jab and grab merchant.
I personally don't like to see a lot of it its technically cheating and speaks of a negative mindset.

Let's celebrate the best clinchers of all time and while we're at it let's acknowledge the best at grabbing their nuts and rolling on the floor from borderline body shots.

Both very underappreciated skillsets in the modern fighter. True fight fans lap that stuff up.

They should have given Ernie Terrell a burger, but he had pretty strong arms and used them to grab and clinch a lot.
