OK, I would go with the men who I thought were the best punchers, as opposed to the hardest punchers in absolute terms. I am also trying to balance out the eras a bit. So with that in mind: John L Sullivan (sorry if the moustache will be difficult to carve) Jack Dempsey Joe Louis Mike Tyson A common factor that I was not selecting for, but got anyway, is star quality.
I was building up to asking you about Louis before realising you'd simply taken the 10 offered and placed them in order Not bad.
Picked Foreman, Shavers, Wilder, and Lewis. Was a coin toss for me between Lewis and Wlad, for fourth place, might give a different answer tomorrow. The top 3 are hard to order, power wise. I would describe Wilder and Shavers more like high velocity cannon and Foreman as a wrecking ball. There are lots of great punchers on this list and as somebody said earlier lots more who aren’t on it due to space limitations or lack of notoriety.
Louis, Foreman, Shavers and Tyson. How Tyson isn't currently in at least the Top 3 in voting is beyond the realms of understanding.
Wilder, Shavers and a top handful are very close .. Foreman, Wlad, Lewis, Tyson, Liston any of those guys …
I really like this. Question, are you ranking them in terms of pure punch power, concussive power, punch mechanics, or a mixture of all three? I ask as I find the Foreman above all but Shavers, yet Liston above Tyson very interesting but also rational. I'm intrigued as to whether you have the same reasoning that I've come to in my own mind.
People are asking you what you * This content is protected * by the Presidents of HW punchers. Please answer! The last guy asked... "Question, are you ranking them in terms of pure punch power, concussive power, punch mechanics, or a mixture of all three?" I would add that as Janitor alluded to when he asked, usually effectiveness is included & a big part of the equation! SO that would include accuracy frequency combination sequences speed/not being able to be well or at all defended against... Before you answer, a couple of observations: IF you meant just pure power-however that is interpreted, whether the effect of individual blows absorbed the same way or if you could measure the impact... 1) No way any of the smaller guys, peak weight around 180's, would be in the running for hardest hitters ever. Not even close. If it was so then guys who are for *decades* now rehydrated LHWs would be at least considered to hit as hard as the most lethal HWs. Dempsey Marciano Fitz & their ilk may be considered among the very top in historical greatness, legacy, effectiveness at least for their era...But thousands of guys would hit harder. The lowest weight I have seen for possibly hitting near or at the hardest ever is @ 210. Liston. Baer. Wilder got down to 212.5... Louis a little below that, but although greater than almost anyone, AND extremely effective due to accuracy/combinations/technique... Was not among the very hardest single strikers ever. Pound for pound maybe close. But I'll bet Galento like Butterbean could hit harder. 2) Once of the usual suspects who are at least 210ish-SHW MAY be the hardest hitter ever. But it could very easily be either just a contender like Ruddock PED Morrison Tua Bruno or any of the more recent smashers... Certainly including the Leviathons like the 265 lb. MMA man you know who that will fight Tyson Fury-& was measured at the hardest punch ever.
