Moving up in weight is a sign of boxer laziness

Seems like almost every fighter now moves up in weight. Far fewer fighters used to- the great fighters who had cleaned out their divisions/nobody else wanted to fight them at that weight, and some that were truly weight-drained. The fact that almost all are now doing it points to laziness- no longer wanting to put in the roadwork/sparring/diet necessary to maintain the weight. Fighters today have lost any claim to being a GOAT at a given weight class because they don't stay around long enough to find out. They all think they can be the next PacMan and dominate bigger guys.

Well it's easier to cherrypick titles now and Lack of depth in divisions also has contributing factors. I'd have a hard time naming the top 3 contenders of most divisions these days. :ohno

Fighters always have moved up in weight, including SRR. And that was when there were far fewer weight classes.

Or look at Leonard, Hearns, Duran. Hagler stayed in place in part because 160 was catching those guys on the way up.

Yup, Leonard/Hearns/Duran were definitely in that great fighter bucket who moved up because nothing more to do in their divisions. With Hearns he was just a freak of nature at Welterweight with his body frame and was bound to move up.

Look ill admit it can be a mid move. But if they aren't cappin and they are moving up to get the bag or the gyat has expanded and they can't make weight anymore, then that's straight bussin fr fr.

I can kinda agree. Today, there's too much weight jumping for an easy title grab. And WAAYYY too many posters who subscribe to the idea that they are "Challenging themselves", despite moving back down after a title grab. It's as if many don't see that most guys would move up due to not being able to make weight. Or they were a champ, lost their belts, and had no where else to go but move up and try again.

But with 4-5 belts per division, the shot callers could almost always pick which titlist they wanted for easy pickings. Hell, guys like Broner and Robert Gurerro are multi division champs, w/o ever being the top guy in their division. And look at Tank today.

This is NOT the same as when SRL and Hearns were moving through divisions.

Na. If you're naturally heavier you should fight at the appropriate weight class instead of draining yourself so you can weight bully midgets.

It's just them moving closer to their natural weight class.

There were only 8 weights. How many of them are there now? 17? This thread seems stupid to me. Nonsense.

All these extra weightclasses muck everything up. They allow alot of guys to tiptoe edges of divisions they don't belong in because if the mid divisions didn't exist coming in overweight would be magnified. Also means previous guys who moved up faced crazier challenges

Inoue moves up and up because he wants a challenge, isn't that literally the opposite of laziness

It's not a hard rule. There's always an exception or two.

It literally only applies to whomever you wish it to. That's how I gather it works.
