From a lower weight class have a more important/impressive win than Ezzard Charles over Joe Louis?

How about Spink's 2 wins over Holmes?

You also have to factor in Charles HW resumes depth - Louis, Walcott (4times), Marciano (twice), Ray, Bivins, Satterfield, Valdes, Harold Johnson, Maxim, Layne, Oma, Moore (not at hw)

I suppose it depends if you count Holyfield who was a 178lber while a young olympian both are hard to seperate at HW for my money

I think Spinks's win deserves a few more points. Holmes was past his prime when Spinks beat him, but I think Louis may have been even further past his best when losing to Charles. Holmes was fighting actively and still the champion. Louis hadn't fought in two and a half years and had previously retired. Not to mention, I think this was Spink's first fight ever at heavyweight, whereas Charles actually had some heavyweight fights under his belt. In fact, he was sort of the unofficial NBA heavyweight champ after beating Walcott in Louis's stead.

Moorer win over a prime Holyfield was impressive.

Yes, absolutely. Charles himself even has more impressive heavyweight wins than his win over Louis- both Walcott wins, to name a couple. And of course there's Holyfield over Bowe and Moorer over Holyfield.

Oh, and I nearly forgot the absolute biggest one: Schmeling over Louis.

Spinks win over Holmes is the greatest ever in the context of 175 to heavy IMO.

That wasn't a prime Holyfield nor was he at his best. He had a heart condition and was basically having a heart attack in the ring. Riddock Bowe is the one that beat Peak Holyfield at his best. What happened in the second fight is a preview of what would have happened had Moorer fought peak Evander.

On Topic, Holyfield cleary has the best resume coming from cruiserweight. He had a win over the silver medalist and unbeaten Riddock Bowe, 2 wins over the favorite Tyson, Mercer, Moorer, Rachman and John ruiz. I would say he has the best resume coming up to heavyweight actually.

Personaly I give Charles more credit for beating a prime Walcott than for beating a shell of Louis.

Holmes probably had a bit more left when Spinks beat him than Louis did when Charles beat him. I also think that Dempsey might have had a bit more left when Tunney beat him as he did go on to beat Jack Sharkey.

Can we include Sam Langford in this discussion?

If so his wins over Harry Wills arnt too shabby.
